Now that Schumaker mounts just might be a thing of the past, and K members are getting more scarce by the day, how about some ideas on modding slant K members to "become" a V8 member? With my broke ribs and winter, this won't be happenin at my house immediately. "What I was thinkin"

I think I have a slant 73/ later K here
I KNOW I have a 73/ later V8 K.

I'm thinkin maybe rig/ weld up some scrap for a "fixture" (jig) to locate in some established holes, maybe the 4 frame holes to locate the jig, and the jig in turn would have pilot bolts, etc, to locate the engine mount ears "where they should be" for a V8 conversion using stock V8 spool mounts.

Been there, done that with 67-72 slant sux K frames. If you make a jig, make it to accept the shouldered K frame bolts. I built it off a V8 K frame. One in the jig is a 67 slant sux K I modified to V8. Will be converting idler bracket to 68 up which is why the 67 only one is missing in the pix. See pix below.

67-72 LH mount is the same from slant sux to V8. I cut the slanty sux RH mount off, built up a RH V8 mount and welded it on, as well as modifying the LH mount to V8 specs. I imagine a 73-76 jig could be made off a V8 one in similar fashion. Hope this gives you some helpful ideas.

Excellent. You might show how you convert the idler arm mount as well!!!

Havent got that far yet. Going to make another jig of existing 68 up V8 mount to locate the arm correctly.

Farkkin showoff. lol

Way to go, Matt. That is great work.
I have converted 4 or 5 over the years but mine have been hand built with levels, tape measures and bonehead, backyard skills. Your method looks more precise!

Yeah Matt's purdy dang gifted alright.

Hey, but you goterdun. It is a bit easier fabbing the pieces off a template, then building from the bolted on jig down to the K frame. I may be picking up 2 more slant sux Ks to modify soon.

I have a 68 V8 K frame , rusted out but has good mounts and idler bracket if someone wants the pieces. I could cut them off and donate to the cause.

^^That is a good point^^ It occurs to me what is the best route. Seems like the older OEM style pillow mounts are harder to get?

So should a guy go with.........
72 back pillow mounts?
73/ later spool mounts
Or build a jig that reflects clear up to the engine ears and go with "something else"

Again, all this comes to mind because of "the end" (evidently) of the swap mount availability

Haven't some folks just had to modify the drivers side saddle of a spool mount /6 K frame? If I remember correctly, the passenger side saddle on a slant spool mount k frame is the same as a V8 spool mount k frame. Drivers side on a spool mount slant is taller than a V8, and you just have to cut X amount off of it, and drill a new hole where the V8 lines up level. I remember one person that did this....so I'll try to dig up the thread and post the numbers of the posts in it that relate to this topic.

73 up spool slanty mounts are both different spots than 73 up V8. I looked into modding those. Easier to do a 67-72. Plus I sell motor mount limiters and 340/360 motor mount brackets for 67-72 SBM K frame.

Fer 67-72, check out Trans Dapt/Hedman catalog. It looks like they have the technology. Pre 67 and post 72, not so much :BangHead:

Fwik 67-72 Drivers side tower is same as slant six.
Its the pass side that needs a tower.
V8 a body braket on drivers side, jack it up level..start measurements.

I'm surprised that so far no ambitious entrepreneur has reproduced the Schumacher A-body conversion mounts. Or would that violate some design right? IDK

All you gotta do is make 1 single change in the design of the mount, and it's not design theft. Different radius on the part, different thickness of metal, add a gusset, etc. something like that, and it's your own design.

i dont know about the 72 and up, but for my 71 slant frame i used existing mopar mounts
cant remember what it was, stock 318 on the drivers side, truck mount on the passenger?

one of our members DID make some new mounts but the details escape me

I dug around and can't find it here, but somebody posted the other day that you can buy new small block spool mounts complete from O'Reilly's . Both sides, from the ears on the block all the way to the k frame saddle. One side was $10 and change, and the other side was $12 and change. 2 brand new motor mounts for less than $25! You might have to buy thru bolts. I went out in the garage and looked at the V8 spool mount k frame in my Duster, and compared it to the one in the link I posted above, and the passenger side motor mount saddle on both the V8 and slant 6 k frames look to be identical and in the same spot. Maybe @Alex5280 can clarify if he had to do anything to his /6 k frame other than make the modification to the drivers side saddle. If that's all he had to do......it's a no brainer! :realcrazy:

I would think that would have made it easier for the factory back then too. More common parts. They were heading that direction in 1973 anyways. Chrysler started to hemorrhage red ink by 1975, more common parts used across a wider range was the theme back then, so the RH K frame mount being the same from slant sux to small block V8 by 1973 would have made more sense to the bean counters
