Subframe Connectors

Put subframe connector in the search box in the upper right. I bet there is 30 or more threads. Study up. You will learn a lot.
 
I am looking for opinions on several subframe connector options.
I do not want to use the US Cartool weld in type. My preference are bolt on brackets like the Hotchkis type.
I just came across the Magnum Force subframe connectors and I like them a lot.
They are gusseted and braced better than many I have seen.
Tubular subframe connectors. A-body Dodge Plymouth Mopar double rail or new XRT style

Feedback anyone?

I fail to see how the bracing on those will really contribute much in the way of rigidity.
 
If you have fab abilities they are easy to make. If not buy bolt in ones and then have someone weld them in.
 
I have the Magnumforce sub frame connectors on my scamp, they fit good with a few adjustments on my part not really needed but my OCD kicked in and I wanted them to fit up as tight as possible against the floor, and they did stiffen up the car quite a bit. For the ease of installation and overall quality of the product I would say its worth it
 
and now you don't need to do a search. the basics of every "bolt in subframe connector" thread just got covered :lol:

but seriously, read up and only you can decide if they work for you. if you bolt them in now you can always weld them in later

I need to build a jig and start building these things...
For $499 I could buy a Harbor Freight welder and a Harbor Freight grinder/cutter (already have them) and build 10 sets of them and a Jig to make them with money left over...
 
Buy that metal from the scrap bin for a buck a lb and you can make 20 sets.

$40 of tubing max and a cutoff tool then weld them in .

What are your goals? Do you want something that actually WORKS as subframe connectors or do you want something just because it looks cool and snazzy?
 
Those of you making your own, what are most using? 2x3? What thickness? I assume 1/8"?
 
I run Helwig bars front and back on both my cars . Really makes a difference . The traction bars were on the Swinger when I got it so I kept them for the 70s look .
I thought about trying to incorporate the sway bar that came with my 8.8 when I did the swap but didnt really look alot into it. And quickly gave up on the idea lol

In the first picture you can see where I just filleted out a piece of the four foot stock...
And the last picture and saved how I made three little cuts and open up a window leading into the rear subframe. I welded that all the way back around and that little hole or you can see the bar slit into.
On the second picture you can see the front that I filleted and fits right up against and underneath the front frame piece... Of course I pulled that up tight before I welded the back. I just used my Jack to push it up into slice and make my first tack welds to hold it in place...
This last picture is just a close up shot of that second picture where you can see how I simply took three little cuts and made a little window for the frame connector to go inside..
Well crap now it's the first picture LOL technical difficulty but you get the point...

Thanks for that. I like how you attached them at the front. Still a bit unclear about the rear. Can you post some finished pictures?

Damn it! It's late and I'm in my pajamas in my lazy boy with my dog on my lap! Now I'm going to go out into the garage take pictures and get you a true measurement.. hold tight for 5...
