I'm going to get "Roasted " for this I know !! 400 thoughts ?

Update: I spoke to Engle Cams this morning about the specs on my old 383 cam .
Was told its a old solid cam (I knew it was a solid) with the 112 he said maybe a blower motor- at one time it did apparently have a blower on the engine.
lift is .515 exhaust (342x1.5)
,495 intake (330x1.5)
was told its going to have low cranking cyl pressure

I'm tempted to use it ..... or should i pony up and get the Thumper cam ?

If you get it right the first time you won't have to redo it later. Some people enjoy wrenching, I enjoy driving.

Do you want a low compression engine or a high compression engine? The thumper can be a low compression engine. The angle cam will require a higher compression because of what you’ve been told.

It's ground on a 112 so it'd have to be "pretty big" to give the idle you're looking for.
Sorry I’m not understanding
A generalization as to the sound/radical idle, is that the tighter the lobe separation, and the resulting larger overlap, the more radical a given cam will sound. Yours is on a 112° ls, the thumper is on a 107° ls. The tight lsa is what gives the sound. I have a solid roller that i couldnt use because it wouldn't clear the connecting rods i wanted to use, that has a 104 lsa. I'm betting that would have a radical idle.

OOOOK . Back story first. I have 69 Dart that I've had for far to long ( last drove is in 1999)
the car has been apart forever and now I'm trying to put it back together for next year .
like many of us I'm on a Budget and funds are tight .
I have a 73-400 that I'm thinking of using for a yr / 2 to get the car moving and work the bugs out. I want the car to have a great sounding idle (rough) Its going to be a stock 400 with 906 heads/cam/ headers 4:10 Dana and 3500 stall convertor .
I wish the 400 had more compression but they dont.
I'm thinking abut the Comp cams CL21-602-5 Thumpr cam ( 507/494 ) do I have enough piston clearance ??
I know its not going to be a great combination for this set up but If I'm being honest im more interested in the " sound " of the car then the performance ( for next year) future plans call for a 400 something stroker but because I have the rest of the car to reassemble its not in the budget for next summer and I'm tired of the car sitting.

thoughts?
Have you looked at the Hughes whiplash cam, they're made to build cylinder pressure for low compression engines, perfect for a 400. I don't know what comp cams intake closing point is but Hughes is quick. More bang for your buck one could say

I have not as of yet .

Bit of a update - motor is coming together. I went with the thumper cam and even ponies up for the TTI headers. As son as they arrive it’s engine/ trans meets it new home ( 69 Dart )

Those are pretty good cams IF a your engine fits the parameters that the cam was designed for. You should be right in the hunt with your CR.
