Sound the alarm, maybe...

I was looking at the bare heads, 440 bucks out the door plus tax and shipping. I think you could do valves, springs, retainers and locks and machining for a grand or so. That's pretty damn cheap for aluminum heads.

I gotcha. I'm still on the fence about getting them.

Oh I'd love to of gotten them... But I just got this... and had to pay to retake a $500 exam.

Tony thinks very highly of these heads, when he was helping me this spring with my camshaft and transmission he kept saying how I needed to get rid of my heavy x heads and get some aluminum speedmaster heads...

Are the heads really worth it though? I keep finding reviews of how much work they need out of the box.

Check out some of the reviews here. Honestly if I were going to buy them, I'd buy them bare and send them to my machine shop. Look at the edelbrock heads, they're quality control is garbage and they need work ootb too.

I have seen bad reviews, and good, for the speedmaster heads. The worst review was by someone trying to sell his ported iron head motors. Self interest maybe?
I have not taken mine apart yet, so i cant speak to mine (gonna change to conical springs for a solid flat tappet) but my old racing buddy has a pair on his turbo LS stroker motor. They must be garbage, his stroker is only making 1200hp.
