Old rerun tonight on Carson, Barry Manilow. I liked some of his songs but never liked to hear him sing. For one thing it always seemed he as flat

Another one was Paul Williams. He should have written his music, and handed it off to someone who could sing it and be happy with that.

Joan Baez...Bob Dylan (that right, I said it!) Irving Berlin.

Someone saw this and commented, "the songwriter must be turning in his grave listening to this rendition" not knowing it was he who wrote it!

Bob Dylan for sure! Glad someone else said it. LOL

Dolly Parton too. I never cared for her voice, but she wrote some great songs.

Dylan to me was one of the best song writers and one of the worst singers. He could actually carry a tune well but his voice quality is hideous.

Willie Nelson was a far better song writer than singer. But, Blue Eyes Cryin' In The Rain just wouldn't be right if Willie didn't sing it!

I've always said while he doesn't have the most fantastic voice quality, there's just something there that cannot be denied. I think he can sing pretty dang good. As for his song writing, how many people would have no musical careers were it not for Willie? A LOT. He's just slap incredible.

Also, another point of note and this is just my opinion, but if I had to make a top ten list of guitarists, he'd be on it. While most might laugh at that, if you do, you've just not listened to him enough. He is a phenomenal guitarist.

Here's somethin to shake it up. Me doin some Jamey Johnson. lol Dig my cool footwear.

Anyone who has to use "auto-tune".

I had a pair in high school in brown! Not that big though.......

just about any actor trying to crossover and write/sing.....

Neil Young. While his songwriting was superb, I can't stand his voice. Also can't stand Axle Rose.

As for the "anyone born after 1980/1990" comment, do yourself a favor and check out Colter Wall. He's a modern outlaw country musician from Saskatchewan, 25 years old.

Bob Dylan, Neil Young , Kris Kristofferson, Eric Clapton, Axel Rose. I could go on and on.

With all due respect to opinions, Kris Kristofferson is one of the best writers and while he wrote lots that others sang, to me he didnt sing, he told stories. Much the same way Johnny Cash did, or Red Sovine, way back.
IMO, his style of writing fit his voice/singing style.
Nostalgia as this was Dads "style" so to speak and influenced me as a kid.
As I said, just my opinion.

This one has MANY versions, I still like Kris' version the best.

Kanye West… As far as I’m concerned he doesn’t have any talent. You old farts probably don’t even know who he is.
And what’s the matter with Axl Rose? He has the largest vocal range of any known singer. He’s a jerk, but the boy can sing.

I can't attest to whether or not he's a jerk. Sure his range is broad, but he spends most of that time in the abnormally high area. I just don't care for the sound of him.

I didn't mind listening to Willie Nelson, but one day I commented to my Dad that "Willie didn't have a great singing voice" and he about went ballistic

I'd as soon listen to anybody else as put up with Kristofferson

Neil Young. Agree there!!!!
