Hey guys I have an 85 D150. It has a bone stock 225/904. So far I added an HEI module, new cap, rotor, Accel SS coil, spark plugs, and adding a Carter BBD to it. My goal is to keep everything as stock as possible if I can as far as bottom end. I'm mainly using this truck for daily driving and towing/hauling. I'm not looking to rev it to the moon, probably no more than 4-4500. As far as budget goes I'd like to keep my costs as low as possible. Looking for opinions on turbo choice. I can fab all my brackets and piping so that alone will help cost.

I have a '84 D-100 with a A833OD. I'm thinking about a turbo for this, also. I haven't don'any research on sizing, yet. I am just looking for a little more pulling power when towing my racecar up a long grade on the interstate. I'm thinking about 5-6 lbs boost. I don't want to go inside the engine.

I have an 87 D100 shortbed with a 72 slant with a 2 barrel paired with the 72 904 in it. I have a 65 block bored 30 over, block decked 90 thou and head cut 10 thou that might be a good candidate to swap into the truck. I’d be keeping the 2 barrel. A turbo would be interesting - subscribed

Watching this one. I'm about half done rebuilding the slant/A833OD in my 82 D150. A little boost couldn't hurt this pig.

I have 2 chargers from my 12v cummins. One is the H1C and the other is an HY35. Would either of thos work? I'm looking to keep boost under 10psi

An hy35 is an ideal turbo for a 225, actually that's the turbo I used in a ford 240 build and it was purrrrfect.

What all would I need to make it work? Wastgate? Carb mods?
The oe waste gate starts to open around 14-18psi so that might not work for you. The carb will have to be modded for blow through. On the ford build we used a motorcraft 2300

So my plans have changed a bit. I'm going to be using a Holley 2300 series 350cfm for ease of modding. My big question now is Wategate. What size would benefit me better? Like I said above I'm only looking for 8-10 psi. Would I go 38mm, 40mm, or 50mm?

I have this one. Brand new. Only used for mockup. Built in wastegate and all.

As for wastegates, you’ll be fine with a 38mm but you can go larger. A quality wastegate that isn’t a counterfeit is important. There isn’t really any benefits to a wastegate. If you have your turbo sized to your engine correctly (225 ci @ 10 psi @ 4500rpm) you’ll barely use the wastegate at all. I have a 38mm tial wastegate and at 62mm compressor, .84 a/r, I put the lightest spring in for tuning and I couldnt get 1psi of boost out of it.

This past weekend I was able to actually look at both turbos I have. They are both the Holeset H1C. 1 has the 18cm housing and the other has the 21cm housing
