So there isn’t a braking benefit to the caliper being mounted in the front or the rear? I’ve been told that rear mounting makes the braking more effective, whatever that means. Never bought it, but I could be wrong.

I've heard that too. I've run them both ways, and in my situation I honestly can't tell any difference. I stab the pedal, it stops.
