Alright slant six guys, what am I doing wrong? I put both new o-rings on this distributor. I even tapped the distributor hold down bracket straight. They always seem to get a curve in them from being tightened down through the years. Yet I still have a persistent oil leak coming from where the distributor installs into the block. What am I missing?

Since it is right there next to the oil pump, are you sure the leak isn't coming from there or the fuel pump?

I found the o-rings in the "kits" to be slightly smaller on the diameter. I had to go to the hardware store to find one that was an exact match.

If you have it back apart, cover it with O-ring lube. I use it when I don’t wanna replace my seals on my leaky faucets.

Know how on some LA complete gasket kits you get the thick paper flat washer gasket you never know what to do with? Well that’s for the flange seal on Chrysler distributors. Mine have been black and about .040” thick. Try using one of those. I was told those correct the warped flange. I’ve not used one personally or had to. But I hope this fixes your issues. Worried about a bad ground afterwards- me too but the clamp if on clean metal will rectify that. Syleng1

still need an o ring too. Most engine rebuild kits “did” come with 2 sizes of o rings. I’ve gotten away with the skinny-er but maybe the thicker one will make it stop.

^^^^^^ Agree. If you find the clamp bracket bent(over tighten as stated in the first post) it could have caused the problem. I have also seen that gasket in metal too.

Anybody have a part number for that gasket?

Rusty. Not saying that you won't find it under anything for Chryslers,But I think you may find it in a small block chevy listing.I'm pretty sure they are the same. It's been years but a chevy guy I knew gave me one.

Check the spark plug bucket above it.

Well! Knowing your amount of knowledge, I'm not one to discount it. So I went back out with a REAL good light and ALL of the spark plug tubes are leaking. That's where it's coming from. lol So I have a set of the red silicone plug tube seals I am gonna put on tomorrow. Thanks Steve. I probably wouldn't have looked at those had you not mentioned it.
