Crazy idea

-
I have broken in two engine with a 5 gallon tank, a piece of metal fuel line bent into a sump, and an electric pump. I put the can up on a bench/table, the pump down on the table, and then run rubber line to the carb. Hasn't failed me yet.

Well thanks guys I thought it was a good idea lol
it still is...for a cold start AFB that usually boils out the gas as soon as you stop it. The 3psi facet is usually not used alone for a V8 but to prime the empty carb, 100% effective.

I pressurized the fuel tank with an air blow nozzle at the filler neck, it doesn't take very much pressure to do the job.
I blew a dent out of mine by pressurizing the feed line. I was trying to clear a possible block (was a fouled filter) and the tank made a popping noise, the dent on the bottom was gone!

With a completely empty fuel system, I fill the tank at least 1/4 of the way, use a MightyVac to pull gas up to the fuel pump (or blow a bit of air in the fuel tank), and fill the carb float bowl(s). Assuming you have a good fuel pump, it will start and run just fine without it dying on you.
Yea that is pretty much exactly what my idea is! Just use a cheap fuel pump to prime the lines and carb.

With my way, you can avoid the expense of buying an electric fuel pump. If you already have one, sure, go to it.

I don't have a mighty vac so either way lol I already bought the electric fuel pump it was 10 bucks. Probably cheaper than a squirt bottle to prime he carb

But maybe a good one. I am concerned about the break in procedure and getting the engine started quickly. My main concern was fuel. With a new tank new line new pump etc thats a long way for the pump to suck fuel before it gets to the carb ie lots of cranking! So I had a crazy idea that I thought about and I'm gonna try it, it can't hurt. I bought a cheap 5-7 psi electric fuel pump im gonna wire in to assist with the priming. I will hook it up inline with the carb bypassing the pump let is suckulate the fuel till the lines are fuel and the bowl in the carb is full then unhook it and hook the mechanical pump into the line and carb like it should be. Then the fuel lines as well as the carb will have fuel in them give the carb a couple pumps make sure its spraying and it orda pop right off as long as I have spark. What do yall think?

That'll work but there's a MUCH easier way. Get everything ready, remove the gas cap and put your air blower in the fuel fill with a rag around it sealing it best you can. GENTLY let in a small amount of air and back off. Do this several times and you will eventually fill the carburetor bowls. If you have an adjustable regulator on your compressor you can turn it down to like 5 PSI and you won't have to regulate it yourself.

That's how I've done it for almost forty years.

Never thought about that! Hahaha that's a good idea too.

I agree with post #37, I said almost the same thing in post #25. You can use this same method to drain tank for tank removal. This method is free, unless you really want to have an electric fuel pump.
Enough.
