Im curious for yalls opinion on the matter. For a 10:1 compression engine would you go for non ethanol at 89 octane or premium 93 with ethanol?

I will pick non ethanol period over alcohol tainted fuel. In my Barracuda I’ll add octane booster. In the Dart it does fine as is.

Is your engine a measured and verified 10:1? I didn't think it came out that high.

I hope not. If so I can go a little thicker on my head gaskets

How exactly did you figure DCR? Did you use the camshaft static specs or the installed specs? There's a difference.

I stand corrected it was 8.3 before elevation its 7.8 with elevation.
I used the specs on the cam card. Divide the intake duration by 2 add the LS subtract 4 for ground in advance subtract 180. Puts me at 59 abdc

How did you install the cam? By the cam card or something different?

Anytime you can stay away from ethanol gas, do it. It will deteriorate rubber lines if left sitting, plus the corrosion it leaves on fuel parts sucks. Around here we have 92 or 93 non-ethanol, is your highest octane 89?

I wouldn’t use any low grade fuel. It has a ton of detergents and fillers in it. Use whatever the highest grade fuel at the pump. BTW, a buddy did some pump gas testing around his place (3 hours from me) and found out the most alcohol he found at the pump was 7% and most were under 5%.

He also checked the few e85 fuels he could find none of them were anywhere near 85% ethanol.

I've always noticed the "up to x% of ethanol" and wondered what the content really was. I think most of ours around here is up to 10%. Also on the e85 I've read a bunch of tests that showed more like high 60s to mid 70s on the ethanol content.

If those are the only two choices you have, the motor may decide for you. You'll be able to run the non-EtH 89 for break in because it's not under load. Once you load it, it may knock with the 89 at 10.3:1 with iron heads.

I haven't seen non-ethanol fuel in decades. I was thinking of shopping the local airports .
I will check the link provided by mcodecuda
I do live among the deepest of cornfields in the Midwest. The best government money can buy may have something to do with it.

I've seen that link before it's been several years though. Yeah one of them is an airport listed. And several of them report 100 and 110 octane fuel. Some with all three grades available in ethanol free flavors. I'll look in the proximity next.

I use pump 93 fuel my dart does fine. I don't daily drive it and no problems yet. Uncle Tony did a video where he demonstrated a car he had sit for a long while and took apart carb no sign of corrosion. It had ethanol fuel sitting in tank too.

89 is the highest non ethanol at the local places i maybe able to go more your way or towards Roanoke and find higher. I was thinking it was 91 but the other day I was pumping gas and noticed it was 89. The regular pump gas is 87,89,93 and NE was 89

We have a small airport nearby wonder if they sell fuel
