I can't answer that I'm thinkin' the 46RE was for gas engines . there are lots of upgrades to both 46RE/46RH & the 47RH/47RE,48RE . The 47/48 series are real heavy duty and have an 8 pin connector and need a controller to operate as do all RE series .

Alright, I thought the RE came later but was essentially the same. Mine is definitely 46RH (3 pin connector) out of a ram van with a 5.9 gas (I pulled it). Can't remember what year though.
