Well Ma Mopar in her kindness and wisdom with recycling parts for myrads of applications has unwittingly come through for us again.

We all have experienced the dreaded worn out lower door hinges on our A,B, and D vehicles. This leaves several options. Get them welded, and bored out, bore em out for bigger pins, bore em out and use bushing kits, or buy new ones. All of these solve, and or create problems.

Well apparently chrysler also used this same hinge on B series vans. The later B series vans around 1993-1996 of which they used bronse bushings from the factory to prolong the hinge life in the heavy van doors.

The only thing you have to modify for A,B, and D use is drilling out one threaded boss on the side of the hinge that mounts to the body. When you look at both the old and new side by side the original has a square hole stamped in it. A 3/4" diameter hole will suffice for this.

Other than the bronse bushings the hinges look identical to the originals in our cars. So for cheap you get a new hinge thats designed and drilled specifically for a longer life bronse bushing.

I am gonna pick up a set of these for my ride. At $38 a piece all over ebay, and probably cheaper elsewhere why bother with the worn out original, or more expensive repop hinges that still have the same hinge wearing out issue like the originals.

The original upper hinges on the A bodies are rebuildable however. My 67 cuda has bronse bushings in it from new. I was able to buy new pins and bushings for those as well.

Hope this helps
Matt

I want to look at the same one you are, link? the ones I seen on ebay are 39 - 52 bucks. still a good deal

I just google searched ram van door hinge, and copied pic to my phone. Dont have a link. Go there and take your pick. I bet rock auto has em too.

I thought they looked the same but haven't experimented with 1 yet.

Just got mine thru rockauto along with needed stuff for my other vehicles. Everything was on same delivery. Shipping $7.00

Hinges were $33.79 each x 2 and i used the rock auto 5% discount code so that took care of the shipping.

1996 B series van
ChryCo PN 55076269
Dorman PN: 924108

Dorman also has repair bushing kits for these hinges so if they ever wear out just order a B series van bushing kit.

Hinges came in yesterday. As advertised they look just like the picture. Niiiice!!!!!! Got to drill those holes out in the picture to 3/4", and will knock out the pins and bushings, etch the steel lightly with my sand blaster to roughen em up a bit, and epoxy primer them.

Heres hinges before and after drilling. A unibit with some spray oil, and the drill press at work is all it takes

Excellent! Thanks for those pics,

Got lucky today and found a brand new installed on a 95 b2500 in the wrecking yard..... 12.99 + tax...... Sweet!!!!!! Gonna modify it tomorrow...... Thanks for the great tip, Matt!!!!

No problem. Glad to help out. I bought 2 hinge bushing kits originally to do 2 uppers and 2 lowers on my car, then found these van hinges fit for the lowers. Now the rebushing kits will work on the 4 uppers i have. i just have to shorten the longer pins in that came in the kits I have 2 cars that i have to do hinges on.

Dorman PN# 38382
Dodge/Plymouth 1966-1983
Buy one kit, shorten the longer pin to match the short pin, and rebuild both upper hinges. I think i payed $12 per kit. Summit racing has em for $7.65 per kit, however your local Vatozone may have em on the peg hook

Helloooo.... just wondering if I can hear/see (pics) of how these hinges actually end up fitting, as in do they throw off the door alignment. I know the threads old, but hoping lol.
Thanks

Wow it is an old thread. I ended up selling the dorman hinges, and picking up used ram van lowers and putting dorman bushing kits in them. I have not installed them yet. Doing other stuff right now.

FYI Moparleo rebuilds hinges. [FOR SALE] - DOOR HINGE SERVICE
There might be a slight difference in alignment but you should probably adjust the door gaps and alignment after rebuilding them.

Wow... pretty quick on the response Matt, appreciate! Was there an issue with the hinges that changed your mind?

Hey Mike, thanks for the come back. I’ve done my hinges, the car is off the rotisserie and blocking continues (Argg)
Reassembly and alignment next.
These looked like a viable option to a complete re&re on the hinges. Nice thing about FABO, lots of ideas and advice. Thanks

No issues to change my mind. Somebody wanted them and I sold them. Then I bought 2 used pairs out of the junkyard, drilled them and stuck them on the shelf with dorman kits for upper hinges for both cars. I also rebuilt a set of van lower hinges and A body uppers for Cosgig for a 67 cuda vert. Not sure if he installed em yet.

Thought I would add to this thread, I ordered and installed the Dorman kit #38382. Exact match. Surprised the lower hinge doesnt take bushings. It was good n tight, so I just sandblasted it and primed. One of the upper bushings was stuck pretty good so I used a tap and threaded it in to the bushing to help
remove.
Old vs new pins identical.
