LED headlights?

Interesting that the heat sinks would make these weigh more than an incandescent sealed beam! One advantage of LEDs was supposed to be a greater portion of the input power being used to make light rather than heat, No? Even if they drew the same amperage, the LEDs should either be cooler, brighter or both.
More efficient yes. Truly efficient, not so much. There is still a lot of wasted energy that comes off as heat and the LED cant handle near as much heat as an incandescent, so it needs to be pulled away by the heat sink.

Which brand are those?
Don't have the info in front of me but this is the kit sold by crackedback on here. looks factory, no heatsinks simple relay system with proper connectors and wiring, when aimed properly, rivals present day vehicles.

The heat sinks are part of the bulb assembly if you get LED. I got a DIY kit from slantsixdan and used GE Nighthawks recommended by both him and crackedback. Very happy with the results

I just opened up the buckets when I upgraded to led headlights. But I also rewired the whole car. Love the look, once I can finally put a battery in it I can adjust them. Bought the same 7" but this design. Outer parts will be on with running lights.

Hey everyone, I was wondering if there are any plug and play led headlights for a 1974 Plymouth Duster? My headlights are really dim and are pretty much useless at this point, and I want something bright so if I’m driving at night I won’t be struggling to see the road! Thanks!

I`d rewire the whole car, 46 yr old wiring is asking for trouble------------wont need a relay kit if u do .

Even redoing the wiring you still need the relays to take the load off the headlight switch and get the true voltage from the battery. Next time you run your headlights let me know how hot that switch gets.

Rewired w/ an E Z kit, more like a chevy w/ mopar ends. N ever noticed the headlight switch getting hot, haven't used the headlights much tho- will watch.

No way in HECK would I waste money on LEDs with all the fantastic halogen H4 conversions out there.

I think it just depends on your “need”. I am looking at them because I plan on doing some long haul trips but I am going to try the relay kit with new H4 first. Then a lot of people like the over all look. I think they have a place and as cost goes down on the quality ones I think they will be more common.

I don’t have any experience with the E Z kit so I can’t say if that solves the issue. Definitely let us know what you find out. I would think a newer wiring kit would have taken the down falls of the previous electrical system and correct them.

LED lights use less power and probably produce less heat than an equivalent light output incandescent. However with an incandescent light you aren't worried about the heat effecting lamp life. Heat to an LED is the death of the "filament" or the phosphorus yellow goo over the diode. This really isnt car information but as an electrician I can tell you all about it.

Kind like that? Found them on Ebay, had to trim a bit of the heat sink to fit.

Well here's a point I didn't see anyone make.....and forgive me if I missed it, I didn't read every word.

BUT, LED headlights are illegal I believe in all 50 states on cars that did not come with them, so you need to be careful and read the LAW in your state. If you get stopped, it will NOT be a cheap ticket. Just something to think about.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B084VFC1JS/?tag=fabo03-20 these are stamped DOT for h4's but I did the LED up grade// 2 wrongs dont make a right but it's alot tamer than those LED tractor /atv 1,ooo,ooo lumen light bars on 4x4's !!!

big difference in technology 50 yrs later and you have to know the difference in light out put between projection/reflection lighting

where I am at I see /dont see 1 in 5 halogen lights out in someone's vehicle and those **** plastic yellowing housings that let moisture in to fry $20 light bulbs

wow showing your age:lol: cibie/kc/hella all good stuff !!
back in the day the friends and I use to make smores with my KC daylighters !

Heat is one thing. LIGHT is what we're after here.

I hate led's, never have liked wearing sunglasses at nite so that you can see and blind me. You don't see better with them, how did we ever see the road in the old days. I drove truck for 37 yrs and watched the transition, I have never figured it out.
Why do dogs lick themselves, because they can. Give me the old headlights any day.

back in the day the horses :poke:knew to way home

If works, it doesn't need to be repaired. May you drive down the road in your car and have a pick up truck or SUV tailgate you with his Led lights lites on, oh yeah, lights on in the daytime too for safety . Brainwashing I think.
