I mounted the qa1 upper control arms on my 67 dart. Converted it to discbrake's from mbm. I wanted to go 17x8 with 5.25 or 5.5 inch backspace all around. But the qa1's have such a big cup where the ball joint sits that i think i can not clear the wheel.
Anybody experience with this? I've had firm feel uppers before and they looked like that i have more room for the wheel. If i go to 18 inch wheels i probably don't have the problem. But I cannot find them with the looks i am looking for.

I have QA1 uppers but run a 17x7 with a 4.75 back spacing and they clear fine. This is with both oe 11.75" disc's and calipers and Dr Diff 13" and PBR's.

That is good to hear. It is an option to go 1 size smaller in the front. Do they go over the ball joint or doesnt it come that far with a 17x7? Do you have pictures maybe?

I guess not so many experience here with the Qa1 upper control arms. I think i am gonna try the firmfeel arms. Maybe i can sell these here local.

The problem with 17" wheels is tire selection. I was trying hard to go with a 17" wheel, but I couldn't find tires in the sizes I wanted. I went with 18". I spent way more time than I care to even think about looking for an "off the shelf" wheel, but I'm happy with my final selection. There are tons of 18" tires out there, you should be able to find something that works for you. I have 18x8 on the front and 18x10 on the back.

Thank you.
With a 17x8 i could fit 245/45r17 all around. That is a common size around here.
In 17 inch you have wheels with a somewhat vintage original look. 18's look more modern for my taste.

I don't have a set of QA1 UCA's, but I do have a set of 17x9's with a 5" backspace on my Challenger. These pictures should give you a little better idea of the clearance. The spindles are 73+ FMJ spindles so the hub face to ball joint distance should be the same as an A-body, even if the UCA's aren't identical. If anything a regular 73+ A-body disk spindle might have slightly more room, as the FMJ spindles are slightly taller from the center of the "axle" to the ball joint. Sorry about all the dirt, flash rust and cobwebs, my poor Challenger went from daily driver to parked for 5+ years when I decided to replace the rusted floor pans, frame rails, roof etc. and the cleanliness of the suspension has not been a priority.

I think a 5.25" backspace with the QA1's will be close, but possible (this is 5"). The other thing to remember is the portion of the "cup" that sticks up above the weld isn't really all that structural. So, if you needed to clearance the cup above the level where it's welded that wouldn't be a huge problem. After all, most tubular UCA's do not have that large vertical cup protruding above the ball joint.

I know that members here have run up to 5.7" of backspace on 17x8's with other UCA's, but there has also been talk about running flat zerk fittings to clear the rim. Based on what I see on my 17x9's with a 5" backspace I don't know that I'd try more than 5.25" with the QA1's. At least not if I had to buy the rims first!

I run 17x8 5.5” BS with QA1 uppers. I had to do some minor clearancing of the cup, but nothing that concerned me. Outside of that, fit is great.

Thank guys! This helps me a lot! Im gonna measure one more time. Then i am going to buy the wheels. If it is to close or something with 5.5 bs. Then i also could use a small spacer.

I asked a similar question beginning of last year: QA1 UCA and 17x8 wheels?

My OEM wheels have a touch more BS that you are thinking about, but in my case it just looked too close and no one posted the same combo so I decided to just stick with the stock UCA's instead.

If you do end up running the QA1 UCA and some 17x8 wheels with 5+ inches of BS, please post some pictures at full droop and and both full left and right lock.

If everything is bolted on i'm gonna shoot pics!
You have to be a little patient cause i dont think i have the wheels and motor mounted before summer...
