At the lower end of a steering shaft is a pin tightly pressed in. Just above that is a pretty weld bead all the way around. Right there is the difference between a manual steering shaft and a power steering shaft. That end piece that is welded in/on is about 3 inches shorter for power steering ( the weld is much closer to the pin ).
