I have a 71 Twister with a built 440. The Twisters didn't come with the fresh air opening under scoops..well I installed them last weekend now my hood will not close because the hood donut hits the snorkel on the passenger side.
I love the look of the air cleaner and my question is...has anyone bought a drop base air cleaner and used it on a dual snorkel...I know the bottom would have to be cut out and the drop base tacked on...I just don't want to ruin a good air cleaner if it won't work.
Not sure if an unsilenced one is the same.
Any help would be great..thanks

Mancini's has a drop base for the unsilenced air cleaner which you might be able to adapt. It uses the stock 13 inch diameter filter.

Aren't there drop base factory units that would look a lot like the one you are using now? Post a pic of your current air cleaner on the engine and then one of the bottom (from the bottom, not inside).

Here is what was done to the air cleaner

So I was thinking if I could get a drop base, cut the base out of the original air cleaner and tack in the new lower on. I love the look of this air cleaner.

I have cut and shortened the necks on two 383 air grabber air cleaners for hood clearance. I'm not sure what exactly could be done with yours. I need to finish welding mine up. Probably need to finish welding my son's up as well, but his fits better. I kept the original ring so that it would set on the AVS properly.

Stock 1967 intake.
So the stock 67 intake with a grabber wouldn’t clear the hood?

that doesn’t give me much hope for stuffing a 400 with with a trick flow track heat intake under the hood of my barracuda.

I’d really rather not have a gaping scoop. I was thinking about the AAR hood from VFN Fiberglass as it looks like it might add about 3” of clearance, but they were not able to tell me the additional clearance over stock.

Bear in mind that is a 383 base. I borrowed a 440 base years ago when I was fitting a 440 into my old Dart hardtop. With no gaskets in the bare engine the 440 air cleaner just touched the hood so I became unwilling to search and pay for a rarer 440 base (I already had the 383 air cleaner). Also, the hood clearance was greater on the Dart than the Barracuda. I had to cut the neck on my air cleaner shorter than I did on my son's Dart.

Let me know what you figure out........I also have ZERO hood room with my carb and 1/2" spacer

1970 Duster with a 440 swap

I will def need a big drop base...........not wanting to cut up a stock hood or buy an aftermarket raised hood

So here is what I did..the base had already been cut so I cut the bottom right out of the air cleaner and tacked in a drop base....still a bit close but it works now
