Barracuda fender on FB

-
i just wrote a "snarky" comment to a guy on Facebook that advertised two 69 Barracuda front fenders for $1600!! i don't usually do that as people have the right to ask any ridiculous price for their "special" or "almost new" or "rare" mopar parts as they want. but for some reason, that much money for a couple of Barracuda fenders just rubbed me the wrong way. the market for all mopars is down - especially for A-body cars. why do guys think there is something "gold plated" about A-body parts? i am on the internet probably 5 hours out of each day and there are scores of A-body Barracudas still around. i can understand paying a lot of money for a very nice "NOS" part that requires very little work or is particularly rare or "pretty. but excess money for parts that are rusty and need massive repair? i just don't get it.

:D Hey Steve! I know where you can get a pair of '68s!:)

He can ask whatever he wants, He's not forcing anyone to buy them, I own a gun shop and with the shortage of Guns & Ammo across the country I never thought I would be charging $35 for a box of 50 rounds of 9mm, but I am and people aren't batting an eye to but purchase.

I had a nice pair of 69 Barracuda fenders that weren’t advertised for sale. A guy came over to buy some parts last year and asked me about them. I already had a nice set for my Cuda. I said make a reasonable offer. He called the next day and offered $750 each. I asked him if he thought that was fair. He said yep, I need them! Nice Barracuda parts aren’t falling off trees anymore...

those are very nice fenders.................but what would you ask for those fenders...
They aren't perfect and would need some time put in 'em. Not in any hurry to sell but I'm interested in a '69 fender pair swap deal at the same quality if it comes about.

I had an NOS 68, I was hoping to trade it for 69. I ended up selling 68 NOS, and "settled" buying a very nice 69.

Yep I have heard all kinds of”snarky”BS. Right now I have six sets of 67-68-69 fenders. Should I sell them for your price?? Thats idiotic! You don’t know how I traded/bought/acquired these. I have bought and sold auto parts since I was 9 years old and I don’t remember needing anyone’s opinion on prices. This is exactly why I don’t advertise on here. The fenders you are whining about are not mine, if you don’t need them-don’t buy them-but then you and I both know you never had any intention of using these fenders. But if you could”resell” “flip” you would be all over them.

well, here's the thing "d5667" - i'm glad you have been buying and selling used auto parts since you were 9. i'm sure you learned a lot about which parts are worth money and which ones are not. and i have NO DOUBT that you have had big SCORES where you gave some widow or old guy $10.00 for "just an old piece of junk" knowing FULL WELL that you weren't "buying" that part but you were STEALING that part because you knew that it was a special part and you ended up selling that part for MANY times what you paid for it. some guys have no problem living their life like that - that's fine. but i've never been one of "those guys." i was raised on a farm where you had to do hard work and there had to be some relationship between the work a person did and the benefits one realized. i have no problem selling "rare" parts for a "premium" because the part is rare or exceptionally nice. but i believe there is even a limit to this practice. like i said, you and guys like you feel just fine selling a part for as much as you can squeeze someone for that part where there isn't ANY relationship to what it took for you to get the part or how much you paid for it. great. good luck to you in all that. this is America, you can ask any price you want for your parts. you can even convince yourself that just because they are "your parts" they are suddenly "gold plated." i've met guys like that also. i have sold parts for mopars that i felt were very reasonable prices. and you know what - i just bought a few things from a guy from michigan who sold me an OEM 440 double-grove crank pulley for my M-Code cuda for $45.00. the repop pulley goes for around $149.00 and i've seen guys asking up to $200 for the same pulley if it was an original mopar part. that guy just happened to be an old mopar guy and was just happy to help me with my project. but hey, like i said "5667" "you go girl" - you make just as much MONEY as you can on your parts.

I can vouch for a fact that d5667/Donnie is not like that at all. I received a 340 rad/shroud, and a 69 cuda vert trunk lid. For next to nothing. Rad/shroud came shipped to me in Canada. No deposit nothing until after I got it. #'s correct for 69 340. Rust free trunk lid came via fabo pony express. For well under market value.
I can vouch for his generosity!
Thanks again Donnie.
$1750 is NOT outrageous for a pr of 69 cuda fenders.

OK 4spdragtop... i'll accept your vouching for "Donnie". it's nice that you did that. i didn't know who he was but i guess we do now. i am curious though why you think $1750.00 is a reasonable price for a pair of fenders for a 69 Barracuda. i have been talking to a guy who has a COMPLETE 1969 fastback which is abandoned but still very much savable and he only wants $2000 for the ENTIRE CAR! two days ago, i looked at another 69 fastback close to where i live and it's in decent shape and i will probably buy that car for around $3500. maybe the wild fluctuations in old mopar parts is a regional thing. i live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and within 100 mile radius of my house, i can buy all sorts of old mopar parts for very reasonable prices. i have an entire garage full of doors, fenders, hoods, interiors, etc. according you guys, i'm sitting on a gold mine and didn't even know it.

Hey Jim-the bottom line is it’s not 1972 when these cars were”cookie cutter” and could be found everywhere. By your logic you should sell your”M code for what I perceive is it’s worth. I see a 69 barracuda on Craigslist for the insanely high price of$4500.00 and since yours is also a 69 barracuda that should be the sale price of yours and you should be pressured by all on here until you sell it for the same price. The situation with Steve was he wanted a part- I priced it to him-not cheap-not expensive-he didn’t ***** complain and I felt he deserved consideration-unlike you and others of the same persuasion. Just so that you understand owning an”M” code definitely does not immediately install you into the”Enzo” bracket.

yes, yes it is.. lol.. dang..

That said, he has the "right" to ask whatever he want's he can offer to trade for a kidney. Doesn't mean they'll sell. Of course, the tactic might be to get someone who doesn't really know, who is new to the mopar world or cars in general that has more money they understanding.

Mr. Barnum said it best. "There's a sucker born every minute"..

I think all the holier than thous should start supplying parts.......cheap.......after they go on road trips to retrieve them (do you even own a truck, a trailer or a shop?)........after hours of dismantling.....storing them for unknown time......etc.........

My parts, my prices. Don't like it, go buy a belly button. The parts are plentiful.

I sold a rolling 71 Swinger yesterday for $1200. By the time he was done gathering parts we were at $3500. Not a blink of an eye on his part. I was more than fair on the parts. That is our deal. Nobody else has anything to say about, that I care about. Guess what, the near mint dash pad he bought wasn't cheap (he offered me 33% more than I sold it to him for). It also isn't very common anymore or easy to find in that condition.

Back to topic, Barracuda fenders are expensive, and 69 more so than the others.

Gonna complain about the price of the 69 grill too? What about M code exhaust? Or is that special?

Sorry folks, I get that some don't like the prices certain parts demand, tough life. But I really don't like seeing people bash others that they don't know.

Rant over

So fenders aside(I'll get back to that).
I bought a 69 340 15 years ago for my 69 S. I paid $1500, out of car(gamble)After much deliberation I sold it this year for $1600 to a member here. I dont have time/energy for it. The way I look at it, i preserved a 69 340 for $100 and tripped over the ***** for 15 years. All sorts on here say "core" cuz it's not running lol.
Buyer didnt quibble and I hope it's a good engine for his dart.
69 fender I bought from an amazingly patient member on here that for starters took layaway payments. $600 US. Not only that he held onto it for me(thru him moving states away) for approx 2 years!
I couldnt/cant cross border(I'm in canada) due to foolishness at a young age. Finally I was able to orchestrate a fabo pony express. Another fabo member agreed to bring it to Carlisle and give the fender to a local friend of mine who was going to Carlisle.
I gave a really nice pair of 67-9 cuda fiberglass fenders to the member that brought my steel one up to carlisle(he was going anyway).
So are you confused yet?? Lol.
Soooo over 2 years....$600, pr of fiberglass fenders and another goodwill $50 to my local friend to bring it back, you tell me what that fender is worth???
We will leave the NOS 69 out of it for now lol.
Some people dont realize the amount of effort/sweat/stress involved getting pieces. I dont make lawyer $$ and never will,(no offense intended), so I gotta do what I can to lower costs.
My 69 is a 1 of 34 that I think should be preserved.....but I'm in way over my head $$ wise, and now it's a burden as i have a 1 car garage and 2 cudas. But I look at it that I "saved" a rare vert cuda for the past 30 years.
Dads 67 has sentimental value. That's the one I'm keeping.
#'s matching bs is an absolute pain in the *** when $$ and life is tight.
Sorry for the ramble....
Forgot to add altho the fender is very nice, it will still cost $$ to get it "up to snuff"
Different regions have different prices too.
**ps, thanks again George!**
