What is correct for the rear trim on the 2nd Gen Barracudas? When I search on google, several different variations come up and its not easy to determine what is OE correct.

Between the taillights, the colors are either body color, silver argent, black, or what looks like a transparent red.

The 1967 and 1969 taillights are basically the same, the red is on the outside and the backup light is on the inside. The 1968 is opposite.

I'm workin on a 1968 Barracuda, but I'm interested in the other years as well.

Are you asking about paint color on trunk for 67 and 8? Or the trim itself? 68 trim is 2 piece upper and lower. Cant really mix n match different years of trim with different years of tail lights. They match up with each other.

Yea what is the correct color. Were the colors based on different models? Were all of the Formula S's black?

Like Steve said the taillights and trim parts dont mix and match well between the 3 years.
This is due to the holes in the deck lid.
Easiest thing is to install the correct year trim that match the holes that are in your rear trunk panel. It can be changed though if you are trying to pick a favorite between the 3 yrs.

I don't want to mix parts between the years. Just trying to learn at what colors would be correct for each year. thanks.

68 is the only year that these cars left the factory dang near without brake lights.
In between on the trunk lid was body color. Ma mopar did offer a reflective tape to place there if ordered. I see that as a bandaid on their feckup. For 69 they went back to the 67 design but with styling differences.
The only drivers who really appreciated these yearly differences were the police. Their headlights were no better than anyone elses. License plates weren't as reflective as todays either. Officers are expected to familiarize themselves with the annual changes so they can properly identify the vehicle ahead of them.

69 formula s was the only year for black.
68 formula s was body color on trunk between trim pieces. Although I think 68 also had a "Spring Special" edition where it was red between trim pieces.
67 formula s was argent silver on the middle trim piece.

Only S that was different was 69 (black) and round S emblem on lower rh side of trim

Thanks, that is what I was lookin for.

So for 1968 it would of been body color or an optional reflective red on the inside. Then surrounding that would of been silver argent or just bare aluminum?

69 Cuda models used the silver trim found on non formula-s cars.

1967 had 3 pieces, thin top and bottom with a wider center section. Top and bottom were aluminum color with thin black stripes. Top and bottom pieces are different. Center was a darker Argent. The bottom piece is referred to as unobtainium. No separate Formuls S difference.

Your 68 should be 2 pieces. Top and bottom are approx the same width but are different. They are mostly a light argent silver. Spring Special had a red tape applique' between them, reflective at night. (Also included chrome and black grille inserts). Otherwise the middle part of the deck lid was body color. No separate Formuls S difference.

1969 is one piece only. It may look like separate pieces but it is not. Formula S was black in the middle with dark red painted sections top and bottom and a round S badge in the lower right. See attached photo. Standard non-S cars and 'cudas had light argent silver centers but still only one large aluminum piece.

All 3 years have different tail lights.
67's are of course mostly red with small pieces added that line up with the center deck trim.
68 TL's have the back-up light built into them. The red tail light lens is small and it lines up with the exposed body color on the deck lid.
69's have lights similar to 67's but they are not the same.

The deck lids are all drilled differently between the years to match the appropriate trim. In other words, a 67 or 69 deck lid will physically bolt to your car but the trim holes will not match.

67 and 69 have separate round back-up lights on the lower valance below the bumper.

If you need new re-pop TL's, I recommend B,E,& A.

After almost 50 years these parts get swapped around depending on what the owner had available at the time. A lot of times the center 67 trim gets painted black, or the 68 trim is black, incorrect but owner's choice. The most classic example is the 67 Hemi Under Glass. It has the incorrect deck trim rumored to be off a Chevy.

The top and bottom trunk trim on 68 model year is silver argent in the center, then a black stripe approximately 1/4" wide above and below the silver argent, then the outer edge of each molding is bare polished aluminum.

Here is an unflattering pic of Dads 67 "S". Trim is clearly seen in pic.

What are the correct parts to use to attach the top and bottom trim pieces? I have all the trunk trim that came with the 67 I bought but only the center section has the brackets to put it on the car. I guess I will need to buy the speed nuts that attach them also.

If you have the long 2 stud fasteners for the center panel, you're golden. The 2 narrow trims use common multi-application 10-24 T studs. Mister Gs fasteners has them. Your local body/paint/jobber supply might have them as well. The correct nuts, ALL OF THEM ,should have seals.
The very end studs need be shorter ( about 5/8 inch ) than the common off the shelf length ( 3/4, 1 inch ) so they don't dig into the body. These shorter end studs got a closed nut too so they don't grab wedding rings, etc..., so easily.

Found a pic of it...
These work great when replacing studs in front grille surrounds also.

I have a 67 cuda notchback, if I wanted would it be possible to use 69 tail lights and finishing panel?

Buy a 69 trunk lid or drill all the holes in your 67 lid for that finish panels fasteners. Or maybe just put it on with trim tape which would cover/close all those unused 67 model holes.

Perfect should be easy

what about the tail light housing, is that an exact fit?
