So, i originally told myself to leave these alone. But i wanted to have them both be 5/8 so i would have to neck down on the return (?) Line. So i got into them and the nightmare ensued. I'm ready to take the WP housing off to get these SOBs out but before i do..... any tricks to removing? I have used a pipe wench on them and they aren't cracked...i think....But i broke the little sending unit for sure .

I just did this I heated up the manifold and let some candle wax flow into the threads. then used a vise grip to turn out the fitting. Also if you tighten a 16th of a turn it will come out easier

The POS's have been in there for 50 years and corroded as heck.

A little trick when using the pipe wrench- drive a tapered punch into the hose hose fitting before attempting. That way the pipe wrench is grabbing something solid and not something "hollow" and will not collapse it.

All because the guy who put the nipple in thought it needed to be torqued in place.... :BangHead:

Clean threads and Anerobic sealer goes a long way.

I hope you get it out

also, a piece of 2x4 and a hammer.. set the 2x4 on top of the pipe and rap it good with the hammer a time or two, this can help "loosen things up"

I used heat, candle wax, a punch lightly hammered in and a pipe wrench on an old LA I was helping a friend with. Took a while but it worked.

...and be careful not to break any small pieces off and let them drop down inside or you'll be removing the water pump anyway

Drop the largest diameter bolt into the opening. This way when you crank down with a pipe wrench, it won't crush the nipple.

Properly timed swear words are often key to this process. Several beers internally applied after a failed attempt are also helpful. They won’t loosen the fitting, but you won’t really care that much after a few.

thanks fellas. I did find that other thread after I posted this so apologies for that, but i am sending you a pic so you know the struggle is real. Took the pump out. Heat,... pipe wrench..... drilled out the sending unit. Now to prep for better days.

Am i going to use that itty bitty sending unit for anything? The efi gets its signal from the big guy there on the top.... am i using the little fella for my gauge? And that is a 1/4" NPT? I'll need to chase that before putting anything in it....(usually that is how it happens:lol:)

Thanks! You guys rule!
