I always remove the guards too. I have three angle grinders all three have the guard removed lol. I always get hurt with them tho. Seems like everytime I use one I get cut scraped or burned lol I knocked a good chunk out of my knuckle making the carb plate the other day.

The only time I've been hurt were using grinders with guards. The guard hides a lot of the cut off wheel and you cannot see exactly where it is.
 
Just the whole thing makes it all go together and you cannot pull off header mirrors without a freaking hemi! Lol . The fact that it's got a hemi and header mirrors and it's a dually! Coolest freaking ratrod ever!!

Thanks. I got to triangulate them with some braces. Heavier ones than what's pictured.Once that's done they won't go anywhere without takin half the side of the truck with them. LOL

It is. I just thought about it one day at work and mentioned wanting a metal drum. One of my coworkers brought one back from lunch. lol

Looks like a D-series frame under that B-cab.

I remember a long time ago I was required to watch a safety video in order to work in this particular machine shop/fabrication shop. The video was a true story about a guy who was using a hand held cut off tool, one of those high speed 90 degree 12 inch cut of wheel jobbers. He was cutting some steel pipe about waist height (no guard), the wheel got hung and kicked back. The wheel dug into the guys stomach area. It didn't kill him but the surgeons at the hospital said that the guy required 170 stitches (internal and external). They said that the worker would have problems for the rest of his life because the wheel cut into his intestines a bit and loaded the guy's internals with teeny tiny bits of metal and cut off wheel debris into his skin layers and into his intestinal walls. The surgeons had the guy in surgery for about 6 hours, not because the injury was that bad, it was because they spent the majority of their time looking for metal bits and cut off wheel bits. They said that if it had just been a large laceration/cut into his intestines it would have been a piece of cake (besides the possibility of infection). The surgeons said that the guy would be getting infections and inflammation for many years until his body absorbed every single piece of metal and cut off wheel pieces.

I get hurt with them all the time but it's never because the lack of guard. Here recently i was replacing some cab corners and was cutting out a piece of the old corner and just lost my grip and dropped it, it landed right on the inside of my leg cut thru my pants and cut a 3 inch gash into the inside of my thigh. It could have been really bad there is a artery in there somewhere.

Ouch. There has many times iv been inches from really bad stuff like that. It really worries me. That is the reason I ordered a plasma cutter. To cut back on the cutting wheel usage. But the very first thing I needed the plasma cutter it wouldn't work. So I sent it back lol im gonna buy a better one here soon

Well yes and no the air powered 3" does and the 5" electric doesn't . I kept thinking they didn't , but the last time I used the 3" was a long while ago and even longer for the 5" .

I have a 90* air powered tool with those twist on discs that I use a lot , it has no guard .

Now the title of this thread sounds like you were totally surprised that a Hemi would fit Bob .
Of course it would fit a late model chassis , compartment length might have been tight and maybe even the width between the stock inner fenders . But that's what cut off wheels are for :)

Well, there's "stuff" you don't know, too. The oil pan is for a heavy duty D700 truck chassis. Those chassis were wide open under the engine, so Chrysler used a FULL SUMP 8 quart pan,which I reconditioned and used. So, that means it would not bolt to the factory mount pads. I didn't want it to anyway, because it would have been WAY to far forward and the radiator cowl (similar to a model A) would look WAY stupid hangin out there in front of the front tires. So, I moved the cab back on the frame as far as it would go and still fit good. Now, everything fits like I wanted it to and the radiator will be well behind the front of the front tires. So now instead of lookin totally stupid like this:

Dangerous? Why is that? Because there is no guard? Not a problem in the hands of a skilled operator. Guards on grinders and circular saws protect the newbies and idiots. Us professionals do better without the nanny state "safety" stuff.

Skilled/professionals still make mistakes.

And when they do they realize their the idiot the guard was protecting all along.
