I have a 170 in my wife's dart, not original FYI- and eventually I would like to put a 225 in it, probably with a really low PSI turbo (due to the altitude changes we drive through) and would like to find a rebuilt crate motor possibly.

You could buy a long block from Oriley auto parts or AutoZone if it came down to it.

The rebuilt long block is $1149. that seems a bargain in todays machine shop labor rates.

Back in the 90’s I won a contest that was sponsored by the Dodge dealership I bought my Challenger from and the local newspaper. My winning was $2,500.00 in the form of a down on a new car, service work or parts. So, I decided I would order a virginal 225 long block. They were skeptical at first then called me in 3 weeks that they had found an engine for me in a mid-west warehouse set to be delivered to a military base. According to the dealership this engine had never been installed in a vehicle. Since I had the won monies on account I was charged an agreed $1,100.00 when it arrived. It arrived in the parts dept. strapped to a pallet. Out the door charge was $900.00 for the 225 1977 long block. What would you call this engine since it had never been installed in a vehicle. It is now in my car with 125K miles on it. Thanks, Al

my D150 had a /6 built by jasper in it when i got it. but it had 2 rods knocking,1 bearing plum gone, other was so thin you could shave with it, and was bout to pull the pin threw 1 piston! but it was clean inside and out, 6 new piston and block was decked. id trust a orillieys for i would a jasper tho'...

Well that would depend on who machined and assembled it.
I'm in the middle of putting a slant together right now myself, currently in machine shop jail. Finally got word last week on what size over of pistons and bearings I had to get for it. Got everything I need either here already or in the mail now except for the cam and lifters

Looks like about 2500 for a 225 with shipping to me in Hawaii. Includes good pistons, moly rings etc. Stronger main and rod bolts. I am pretty impressed with the cost of a pretty strong motor ! I won't even deal with the machine shops here honestly.

Do your research on who you are buying from. Many of the rebuilds are done just good enough to run for awhile. The valve train is often where the cheap out, as that is where a lot of machine work is.

Good point, thanks. I am a year or two off on that one, a few small mods first- BBP tires and rims, upgrade brakes etc.
