Restored car pet peeves

I love a well restored car for the purposes of it being a full scale specimen of how it was done many years ago.
I know that the standards are a LOT different for a factory correct restoration compared to a modified car.
Personally, I don't like the following in a modified car:
* NON Mopar engines.
* Skinny wheels and tires.
* 20 inch and larger wheels with razor thin, rubber band like tires.
* Wire wheels.
* Mud flaps, leaf spring shackles, traction bars and neon lighting under the car.
* Obnoxiously tall hood scoops or intake manifolds.
* Excessive pinstripes.
* Fully dechromed cars....ALL trim, door handles, bumpers, everything.
* Lambo or suicide doors.
* FM3 paint anywhere.
* Aftermarket sunroofs.
* Curb feelers.


I love some of the old school stuff like slotted mags, Cragars, Keystones.....Side pipes can be cool too.
For my own cars, I prefer a fairly stock exterior with some liberties taken in regards to the interior.
 
Honestly I am tired of seeing "restored" cars with perfect paint jobs . They never looked that good in the 60s . Hell they didnt look that good in the 80s and 90s ! In fact go look at a 2020 new car and you will see orange peel .
Save that for the Hotrods and customs .

That is all until I come up with more.

I think I passed the test except for the corrugated wire looms I wrapped my wiring with them lol and the black out radiator support i didn't do that either! I still can its not too late lol

I agree. Base coat and clear coat look SO much better but are not correct for these cars.

That’s a great laugh. So true.

That clip someone else posted of that Duster peeling out from a show brings to mind another one. The 1980’s tinted glass, tilt sun roof.

The car looks nice. Black out that core support AND use the word TOO instead of TO and you're all set. :poke:
 
Stripes painted with bleed under the masking and then they leave it, or worse, clear coat over it.
 
All good options/ thoughts ! I was going more for the easy to fix stuff . I understand everybody’s taste is different and level of dedication is different. I am grateful for the old stuff staying on the road in almost any shape .
 
What really got me thinking about all this is , I have a friend with a very nicely “restored” mustang (65) Beautiful car overall . I was helping him put the buckets seats back in . I asked him where the nuts for the seats are and he says are on the ground underneath the car. There was six different bolts for eight bolts the seats needed. To me that stuff drives me crazy. I know it’s nothing but it’s one of my pet peeves. I would Understand if this is a budget car, but this is a $35,000 plus car build. Am I being too picky?
 
My pet peeves at a car show are:

-Anything that arrived on a trailer. If you can't drive it there you don't deserve to show it off. No excuses for trips under a thousand miles.

-Anything not built at least in part by the owner. If you paid somebody else to build the entire car, did you bring them? Because I don't need a play-by-play on how you wrote the check.

-Anything driven less than a thousand miles annually. Less than that and it's just a garage ornament, not a car. If you really want my attention it's gotta go at least 5k a year.

-Anyone that tells me my car didn't come like that from the factory. Yeah, no kidding, I did it. Yes it's a clone, no it's not numbers matching, no that's not the factory color, and no, I don't care what you think about that because it isn't your car.

-Anyone that talks crap about any classic after driving a modern car to the show. Sorry, zero credibility. Maybe it's a hunk of junk, but they drove it here.

This whole thread is why I stopped going to car shows. Bunch of uptight, geriatric wankers stroking each other off over cars they mostly didn't build and barely even drive. Boring.
 
The corrugated radiator hoses are at the top of my list. They just look to me like the guy was in a big hurry and really didn't care all that much about quality.

The last car show I went to was a small local one.. I met a customer/friend there..
He had his restored 65 Chevelle and I my duster.. We went past all the shiney cars and over to this completely junker 90's mustang and a kid that was proud as hell about it... He told us all the things he wanted to do to it and how happy he was to be part of the show... My friend and I thanked him for showing us the car and told him we look forward to seeing the improvements...

One of my pet peeves is the car with the placard that reads: "FRAME OFF RESTORATION"...and it's a unibody car that never had a 'frame' to take the body off of!
 
Ok, here’s my 2c worth.
Reverse cowl scoops, black engine bays on Mopars that weren’t black from the factory - my car was like this when I bought it so not good, see before and after photos below. Companion accessories hanging off the car like plastic burgers and shakes, record players on air cleaners, period transistor radios and worst of all, matching number / OE correct know alls that don’t realise I might actually know more than they do but don’t really care anyway!

Peeve: non-original radio replaced with some brightly-lit 90s atrocity from alpine or kenwood etc.
 
Restored, rat rods, hot rods, show cars whatever. I like em all.
Sure, i did a frame off on my old truck. Did not put one drop of filler on the body. I did remove nearly every bolt, and put it back together how i wanted it.
Lots of new hardware, but i left the old stuff i saved on the outside.
Square head (robertson) screws do not belong anywhere on a car,especially the ones that are 2” too long.

i understand the cheque writers,one in particular pays me to do stuff on his (4) cars. He loves them, and simply has more money than skills. And he does drive em. Another has health issues, and just cant work on his stuff. Actually i have a couple customers like that.

Digital dash displays. Hate em.

Guess i should have said, i would never run one. I dont care for them, but i guess they do have their place. If you are running a newer drivetrain, a compatable cluster is necessary.

repowered buddy’s chevy with the 5.7,and 4l60e.speedo has become an issue,as he is adamant to keep original cluster. A real pain for me to solve.
 
Seeing a classic car any make/model on the road in a parking lot anywhere is like seeing an animal in the wild vs in a zoo. Drive my car shows and don't even stop
because they a boring.

What's a "car show"?

And other then what 67Dart273 said about donk wheels, anyone can change anything they want on my cars.
As long as they pay for it.
I have a black engine bay on my daily driver.
Ever tried to keep Y3 clean?
(Opps that's a 71 only color on a 73 Y1 car.)
