Hello FABO,

I have a 1965 Dart currently 225, A833. Originally had a 273 hipo four barrel from the factory.

I’ve slowly been gathering parts over the last couple years to get a small block back into the car. I have a rough looking 1965 273 that I haven’t pulled apart, and a 1978 318 available, that I’m told was rebuilt.

The plan was to bolt a 1964-1965 273 bellhousing (already purchased) with a new 10” clutch. I just recently realized that the slant 6 and 273 flywheels have different bolt patterns.

Has anyone successfully drilled out a slant 6 flywheel to work with a 273? Is this advisable?

Additionally, assuming that I’ll end up needing an original all 273 flywheel—I’m wondering if there are any compatibility issues between that flywheel and the crank in the 1978 318.

What is it? Just one bolt hole misaligned, right? I don't see the issue drilling the one bolt hole to match the Slant Six. I'm sure it's been done.

Thanks, @RustyRatRod

That’s what I was hoping/figuring. From my research it looked like most folks either had or found a 273 specific flywheel. Just didn’t want to make the wrong assumption.

Why don't you sell the 225 flywheel and get the right 273 flywheel? Probably a few /6 guys would love to get a good flywheel. If you drill what you have, I'd get it balanced. Double check the 225 flywheel will fit on the 273 and 318 before you modify anything.

That sounds logical to me. I figured answers my question could go a couple ways:
- “Don’t be a dumba$$, just buy a 273 flywheel.”
- “Don’t waste your money on a 273 flywheel, dumba$$. Just drill the hole. [and get it balanced]”

They are doing a group buy on a good clutch over at slant six dot org. You are going to need a good clutch. You can sell that slant bell if you don't ask too much for it also over there.
