Very cool. I've always wanted to put one in "something". I had the chance to get FOUR COMPLETE Lincoln V12 engines when I was in high school for 150 dollars.....you guessed it. I didn't get them.

I'll join the fray. A loaded muscle car (any marque) with a high end restoration with dog dish hubcaps. Don't get me wrong, I dig 'em on a big engined stripper, but you know that chances are that restored car came with full wheelcovers from the factory probably with the faux wires. You see it all the time on the tv auctions, usually on a convertible.
Some guys get wigged out at an aftermarket battery, battery cables with replacement terminals on the end.....I am guilty of that too.
How about when a chassis is just bombed with black paint? Several components are actually left natural and unpainted. Steering linkage, transmission cases, shift linkages, etc.
I've heard conflicting info on power steering boxes. I thought they were left natural but many claim they were painted black. Same goes for the 8 3/4" 3rd members. I clean mine and spray them a cast iron gray regardless of what is right.

That’s a very long haul! If my parents still lived in Redlands I would consider! Is this in Pomona or actually Ontario?
Black painted undercarriage? If you're showing it off it needs to look good and not all rusty. LOL Not a restored car but it was a fun one back in the 70's. A previous owner put a 361 in it.

one thing that just annoys me is when engine call outs on the car dont match what is under the hood

"Experts" that will nitpick and point out everything that they think is "wrong" with your car. I built it the way I wanted to or could afford to. I never claimed it was numbers matching or correct restoration, don't care for any of that stuff. I like driving my junk and having fun with it, that's what it's purpose is, not to sit in a trailer or garage collecting dust. Leave that to the museum curators.

Some of us don't really have any other option. We want to be at the track and be competitive so we work with what we have and what our budget allows.
Why should I spend the extra coin for a era correct or old school engine? So the older gen can accept me? Or give me a high five or thumbs up? No thanks, ill pass.
I'm not trying to impress anybody or fit in. I'm going to build what I want and how I want to.

I don't like them either but they don't make 318 callouts for 340 hood scoops. I have one of those cars. If you remove the callouts you have holes. If you plug the holes and repaint you can often see the plugs and often the paint doesn't match. I'll keep my 340 call outs.

The PO of my Swinger was going after a 340 clone. I don't try to pass it off as anything but what it is. One thing nice about the car already being messed with, I don't feel bad about changing things. I entered in a stock class at a car show and felt bad about winning a trophy. If you know what I mean.

Racers often hold the axiom "If it aunt in the rule books, it's legal". I see no difference. If you entered a car show as stock, and the judges didn't catch it and call ya out, it's on them. I'm sure it "looked" stock enough. People used to (maybe still do) hide nitrous lines under intake manifolds to maintain a stock look (and win a pink slip or two I'm sure). Again, if it looks like a duck, well, could be an Eagle
People like you ripping my car apart for all the “WRONG” things.
P.S. It’s not a resto! And I did my car my way. IDGAF how it came from the factory.
I enjoy seeing all old cars on the road or shows. One big dislike is striping/decals/etc on a car that it was never optioned on. Any any hood scoop or engine through the hood on 68-70 Charger.

My biggest pet peeve are the people that will tell you what isn't "correct" for your car. "That car never came with or had blah blah blah".
I'm in the hobby for the camaraderie, to meet new people, and to hear/share stories.
As stated by other members, we all start somewhere with our talent, vision, budget and skill set. Some obviously have lots of those and some of us have few of those. We all need to share in each other's joy of this sport of hot rodding/cruising.

Just an opinion here, I may see it differently than some of you:
There must be something in the nature of many of us to call out something that we see as defects.
It gets worse in regards to a car on display at a show. Something about a car show brings out the critics, right?
Some people feel compelled to bring attention to things that they see as incorrect, fake, unoriginal, not stock or just wrong.
Some of the critics are decent people that may NOT think that others might get pissed about being criticized. If you complain about their comments, they are surprised and caught off guard....Much like the Husband that can't understand why the Wife is pissed.
Also....
The nicer the car, often times... the more critical people get. When my Charger was a battle scarred green bomb, people loved it. Once it was painted, I'd get a few compliments as well as a few comments on how the wheels were too big, paint is too smooth or that a panel gap wasn't consistent.

Seriously, they look alright on SOME cars, but is there some unwritten rule that every survivor, hot-rodded or restored car HAS to have them? I guess they’re better than slots, but the cookie-cutters just seem like a lack of imagination in the build.
