Can someone tell me what type of screw was used to attach the vin tag to door sill of 1965 Dart? Phillips head or slotted screw?

Slotted screws are generally used in wood working only. Phillips head in metal working applications.

I believe you will find that they are spot welded on and the two holes are for alignment.

There was a post here in the last year that covered this very thing.

67 up they are riveted to their respective locations

An article that I read posted on The 1962 to 1965 MOPAR Web Site was discussing how VIN tags were attached. The pre 1966 vin plate was not attached with rivets. Some said that the tag was attached using spot welds, but if car was built at the Windsor plant the tag looked like it was glued on possibly using Cycleweld metal bonding material. Cars built at the LA plant appear to have used glue.

Was stated that the plate appears to have been attached by stamping holes through the plate and the door post at the same time. If you try to rotate the plate 180 degrees the holes won't line up.

As for my tag it was held in place with two screws that someone used. Does it really matter how tag is reattached or should a certain type of screw be used. Or what about glue? If I look at the back side of my tag, it looks like glue was used to attach it.

Realize that at some point in time vin tag may need to be removed and just wondering how tag is reattached.
Just wondering!!!!
