Used oil container

Yes....many cities will take it - if you live within the city limits. But if you live outside the city limits (but still get milked under their tax annex) they won't take it. Plus, they have limited hours and days of operation so it's a pain.

Yep. Around here, you have to show ID to show where you live for antifreeze. But not to vote.

I’d like to use something like this so I always have an idea of how full it is. But I’m not sure how the material would hold up to the various fluids I collect in my drain tank (oil, gas, brake clean, various automotive fluids)

If you drive it long enough without changing the oil, eventually they reach a point where they'll burn enough that all you gotta do is keep topping it off.

Got over 400k miles out of my 96 neon that way, and it only died by dropped intake valve.

Mobil1, baby!

Im I the only one that puts it back in the new oil jug and saves it for my lawn mower?:D

I use brand new synthetic oil in mine, because I can afford oil. I caint afford another lawnmower motor. Being air cooled, they need all the help they can get, so I use Royal Purple. Mowers usually get neglected anyway so if it has good oil in it, I worry less.

Yea I was just kidding. I dont do that. I use Briggs specific oil i wiped a cam in my lawnmower a couple summers ago and had to do a complete rebuild. I got to reading about it and apparently regular ole sae oil cant withstand the heat of an air cooled engine. Who knew? When i changed the oil this spring there was alot of metal in my oil again im hoping its just the new cam breaking in and not wiping another lobe. I readjusted the rockers and they seems fine and i mowed all year without a problem i will change it again next spring we will see. My mower is a big ole pos so i won't be to upset if it is i will just rebuild it again haha

I'm not against it....plenty of people do it with great success. I normally go two full seasons before I service mine.

Show ID to dump fluid? I’ve never heard of that. Hell, I’m sure half the people around here burn their waste oil in a burn barrel
Sure nuff. If you pay property tax within the city limits you get to use the facilities. Same as our yard waste recycling. If you are from out of town you can't use the facility. It is maintained with local tax dollars and not county/state/ or federal money.

That's what gets me....the city get my tax money, but offers no services. They annex the surrounding areas to get the taxes but avoid having to provide things like garbage pickup and gives only 'access ' to the city sewage...you have to pay your own connections, etc.

It's the same old story....while I am at work 8 hours a day, they aren't and have all day to sit around thinking of ways to squeeze more outta me....

Yes that does suck. If you are annexed as part of the city you should get city services as well. (police, fire, garbage, water, sewer, snow removal and street maintenance and the like. I can see the charge for sewer hook up. All utilities hook ups are the responsibility of the home owner to the pole, water main, sewer main or the like. Putting in the infrastructure is quite costly.

A friend of mine died and left his wife with a bunch of CRAPOLA to sell or get rid of. So I went down there and it was way worse than I thought.

Paint and crap and used oil and thinner...I forget what all was there as far as chemicals go. There was some used, nasty solvent too. Forgot about that.

Anyway, they lived outside of the biggest city in that state, so I called around and found out they had a municipal recycling depot that would take “X” amount of junk a week or something.

So, being a dumb ***, I thought how will they know how much junk I’m getting rid of???

I load up a bunch of that nasty crap and head down there. You get to the gate and they hand you a clip board to fill out this form, and ask for your drivers license. I fill it out and hand it back with my license.

They pull me aside and 2 dudes in ties come over and get me out of the truck. They start looking at what I have, look over the truck real close, just checking me out.

I’m thinking WTF??? This isn’t nuclear waste. Then one of the dudes ask me what a guy from Washington state is doing in his states Recycling center, getting rid of all these chemicals.

And then it hit me. They were trying to find out if people were dumping meth waste or whatever.

They let me dump it, but when I came back for the second load I brought my friends wife with me to avoid that.

Head down to your local Fire Dept and ask them for an empty firefighting foam container. Holds 5 gallons, and is built with super rugged plastic. Nice sealing top and a handle.

I used to use a 5 gallon bottle that Jeg's sells for used oil, and another for used anti-freeze.

After a few years, I realized that 5 gallons of oil weighs around 40lbs., and it's a PITA to lug that into an AutoZone to pour out. It's exacerbated by the fact that the oil jug seldom is squeaky-clean, and you're trying to hold it away from you so as not stain your Perry Ellis cream-coloured pinpoint weave summer slacks.

So...I properly disposed of those containers and bought some 2.5 gallon used oil jugs from Northern Tool. Much betta.

I have a similar drain tank from HF and use five gallon oil buckets. One of my buddies built a waste oil burner to heat his shop with so I take it to him.

Sounds like a blue state.

Sadly, it's not...but the blue disease seems to be spreading

I occasionally spray some noxcious weeds with drain oil. They grow behind the shop and even Roundup wont keep them down more than a year. The oil pretty much kills them but more find there way back in later years.
