Due to this whole covid shut down all the metal suppliers are closed when I get off work and no longer open on weekends. Anyone have experience ordering from an online supplier? Any recommendations?

i looked into it before but back then, the shipping cost would kill any deal i could find
of course, nowadays, shipping times on EVERYTHING have doubled

I use ebay. They ship pretty fast but you need to order in advance or "plan ahead". Lowles has some pieces?

See if you have a SpeedyMetals in your region. The cut for free, have decent pricing, and will ship anywhere.

Do you have any scrap yards around. Ours let’s you in after 3:30 on certain days. If you don’t find what you need, ask the yard man to hold back what you need. If he does, toss him a few bucks.

The only good scrapyard won't allow people to rummage through the scrap (someone was backed over by a truck in their yard). That's where I used to go.

It's cheaper to buy in bulk locally, but taking time off work just isn't cost effective to me. I'll have to check into ebay and speedy metals.

Try a local fab shop.... I get mine from two small shops and they leave it out for me to pickup.

The local machine shop will order metals for you. Most of the standard stuff they probably already have i tried the online thing and everything was so expensive to ship i found some really good deals on the metal then it would cost hundreds to ship.

Well, I lucked out and finally found a place local to get steel for my projects. They're prices are fair and they're open when I need them to be.

I did a lot of searching online for steel. Every place I found had great prices, but the shipping always killed the deal. Also found a lot of complaints about damaged material during shipping.

Metals are completely nuts, and long before COVID. Scrap is at an all time low, but BUYING anything is high!!
