Anybody have a big block hyd cam with under .500 lift, preferably unused, that someone wants to trade for some of the small block parts I have listed for sale or trade such as the bearings, timing or valve covers or damper?

I don't care too much about the specs, I just want a reg hyd BB cam that will be trouble free to try out in on engine test stand that I intend to prove out with a mule motor before I try it with a motor I've invested more into. PM me if you have a big block cam for trade.
thanks, John

I might have a stock one. You can have it if I do and you want it.

Stock like a 4brl BB cam unused would work. I'm sure I could find some more 6cyl or sml blk parts to send you in exchange.

I kind of want a new one just so I can eliminate a variable and plus go thru a break in routine on this test stand I'm building. I guess I might consider a clean used with the lifters in order if someone was sure it was good.

ok. Lemmie look for somethin real quick. brb.

That is a good price and free shipping. Thanks much, unless someone comes up with good trade in the next day or so, I'll go with that.

I came across an engine builder on-line out of Florida that does driveway break-ins on a stand without a radiator or water pump; cools with once through garden hose water. That got my thinking, and I'm going to try it, but I don't want to put new good engine on it in case there is much of a learning curve with the cooling etc.

I don't like that. The water going in is VERY cold and that's not good, especially for break in. As cheap as radiators are, I would get one for like a Chevy truck and run with it. And yes, that's a VERY old school grind, but it's a dang good one. You could actually go racing with it. It's just decent enough for that and would be extremely reliable, because of the low lift and single spring requirement. There's a lot to be said for old school technology. Even today.

I understand your concern about the water. There is regulation and partial recirculation the set up plan. The appeal is space saving, where I live now I just don't have room to store anything that is not space economized and doesn't break down, the radiator adds too much to it. I'll let you know, and maybe take a pic when I try it next spring if it works. I think it will work, but I'm going to try a lower value mule motor first to be sure and get some experience with the cooling control and gauge panel etc.

I went ahead and ordered that deal on that cam you gave me a tip on, (I think), never ordered from KMJ before. As I was reading the specs I noticed the ad said only one left, so I decided to pull the trigger. Thanks again, John

KMJ is kickass man. You got no worries there. That's who I got mine from. They also have an eBay store and I've done a bit of business there too. Never a problem.

Great advice here, Rob.
A lot of people don't realize that you don't need to spend a kajillion dollars to have fun in this hobby.
Sure, if someone is building an engine that they want maximum power for their combo, then you have to look at a custom grind.
I'm more of an old school have fun with it on the cheap type of guy anyway.........
