How many parts are interchangeable between a 741 and a 742 sure grip, I know the pinions are different, are the rings interchangeable?

Ring gears are matched to the pinion .
They would bolt in but not mesh properly

The same suregrip unit will work in either one.

Chrysler gear carriers interchange between housing castings. ( as noted above in post #4 ) In other words, a Sure Grip can be swapped into any housing. Note that the carrier bearing inner race is a different diameter between open and Sure Grip carriers. Ring and pinions must stay in the series housing they are made for - 741, 742, and 489 ( plus the others )

An open and a cone type sure grip uses the same carrier bearings and races. A clutch type uses different bearings and races. Kim

But, to the OP;
all the saddles are the same diameter, accepting either bearings..
