Just bought a 62 ply Fury with a push button 727. Seams to have front seal leak. For those of you that know more about automatics, how much of a possibility would the paper pump gasket and Big pump O ring be leaking ? or just a better possibility of just the front seal ??

rustytoolss, I'm sorry that I can't answer your question, and hope you don't mind if I sorta hijack your thread, but I've also got a cable-operated pushbutton 727 in my '62 Valiant (got rid of the original A904) that has been leaking from the park cable where it enters the side of the transmission for freakin' ever. The shop that built the transmission was never able to get it to stop leaking there. I am going to get it up on my lift Really Soon Now and go over that sucker like a dog with a bone, until I figure out how to stop the leak. And if I can't make it stop, I was thinking about starting my own thread about it here on FABO, asking for advice. [I've already applied T'Flite Patty's (Pat Blais) repair to the leaking cables themselves (fuel line over the cable from end-to-end, and clamped at both ends), but it's still leaking where the cable enters the trans case.] So how would you feel about continuing this thread, and making it about correcting leaks in cable-shifted 727s and 904s in general? If you like the idea, maybe we should also ask the FABO administrator to move the thread to the transmissions forum.

It’s possible any or all are leaking, so once the trans is out it’s always best to replace the seal, converter bushing in the pump housing , paper gasket, rubber ring and pump bolt sealing washers.

Of course inspection of everything you can see with the pump out is also a good idea.
Then the front band and clutch packs are right there accessible at that point. :D

I believe early torqueflites had the case vent inside the bell housing maybe your overfilling it Check the fluid hot and in neutral idling. And I say again in neutral not park.

98.6% of the TFs that come in have their problem in the front drums; which will fall out when you remove the pump. Also, it's a newb notion that just the front seal is the culprit. Pump bushing needs to be checked. If this trans was run low for more than a minute, then the converter is probably worn where it rides in the bushing. The only time I saw a TF leak from the front from around the o-ring or gasket was when somebody drilled out a front oil pan bolt hole for a helicoil and went too deep. It broke thru in front of the o-ring.

just bought the car. Wet under the bell housing. Have not checked the fluid myself yet. Only going on what the seller told me.

I did my first TF in a 73 Dart in the winter of 1980 in Springfield, Illinois. I pushed the snow up to the sides of the car in order to keep what little heat I had; under the car. I had never taken a trans apart, but my gf had this crazy idea that I could fix her third/reverse problem...and I got tired of arguing with her. I decided to go ahead and screw her car up even further, figuring she'd cut me some slack; what with all the hard work I did out in the cold.

I stand corrected, you do know what it's like working outside in winter temps.

My 67 TF904, last overhauled in 1984. Sometime around 2014 the selector shaft seal started leaking. I fixed that from underneath. A few months later the front seal started leaking. I'm not able to drop the trans and replace that seal. I've contacted 3 local trans shops and all 3 said same thing, "It's all the same age. It has been ran with low fluid. We dont want to help you make a foolish move. We'll overhaul it for you, ranm'd torque converter, addon oil cooler, and warranty." I have accepted that as the best plan. Good luck with yours.

It's a pain sometimes...Today it rained a bit and I got some mud on my shoe...well, just on the side of one of my heels and it fell off right away...but still..
