Question popped up if the distributor (cast iron duel point) had a vacuum advance or was just centrifugal?

The only non-vacuum ones I'm aware of are some industrial/ marine, and maybe some "race" pieces. Certainly EVERYTHING that was sold through a dealer as a licensed passenger car had vacuum

Remember---68 was the first year of FEDERAL (not just CA) engine emission controls. GM "did" this with a smog pump. Chrysler "met" the regulations with leaned carbs and modified advance curves, etc etc

My thoughts they were all vacuum too, this guy insisted his 68 Dart 340 came with a non vacuum one.

He may have gotten it that way, but from the factory the Prestolite dual points were vacuum and centrifugal.
Hustle Stuff/Direct Connection may have offered a strictly centrifugal version, but it wasn't used on the assembly line.

Never happen from the factory. My dad had a brand new '68 Formula S 340 and the dual point in that had vacuum advance. My brand new '69 cuda 340 4 speed had a dual point with vacuum advance. My present '69 4 speed cuda 340 with the original motor has it's original dual point with vacuum advance. Your friend is mistaken.

Was the 68 a 4speed?

Heres a link to an old 68 340 dp with vac advance I had for sale years back. I cant say whether it came from a 4spd or auto.

[SOLD] - 68 340 dual point dizzy for trade
Maybe @3rdLM23P9 still has it and can help?

Steve, I do still have the distributor I got from you - just have to find it. It is in storage with the cars, but I should be able to check it in the next few days. Once I locate, will send photo.

I had a 68 GTS 340 auto but for the life of me I can’t remember if it was duel or single (aluminum) bought it used in 70

Probably single point. Out of the four '68 GTSs I've had, only the 340 four speeds were dual point (with vacuum advance, BTW). The 340 automatic and 383 automatic were both singles. Seemed odd to me at the time, but all are/were original cars acquired years ago- I've read various spec sheets and road tests supporting this, too.

he doesn’t know what he is talking about. I’m pretty sure all Mopar cars from early 60’s to mid 70’s had vacuum advance

On a positive note.... you now know to 2nd guess and/or doubt any advice from this person in future

All factory 4 speeds that year had Vac advance now some MP/DC came with just mechanical to be added on by the owner or dealer.

I think the only 60’s and newer carburetored production Mopars without vacuum advance would be boats, and/or industrial motors. ???

I even think there was a lean burn motor with two vacuum advance modules.

Mostly. Lean burn was strange could have one one the distributor and also the control box or just the control box, they also had dual pickups. I wont rebuild them, way to many variables and almost no info on the proper specs easily available.
