Best mini starter for RB big block 440 engine with TTI headers.

Those would have the be the MANUAL transmission one, for the 08 Hemi. Automatic is different. ^^

i just installed a mini starter on my 69 383 4 speed Cuda. i bought it from Summit and it was a bit expensive - around $180.00. i purchased it because it is a mopar licensed product. here are some pics. the terminal extension was a separate purchase off of ebay i think.

Jim, as a fellow local, I should probably be talking with you. I got the mini starter for my 383 Scamp and just bought the same terminal relocators. Too close to the block without them.

I installed a starter from a Gen I V8 Dakota......$25 reman

Bolts up and seems like it will work, hopefully find out soon!

I was able to install the starter without removing the steering shaft and never had to mess with the driver side headers

Starter off like an 08 Ram Hemi is even smaller than the Dakota mini starter.

Do you have a picture of it bolted to a block? I would think that the solenoid would be really close to the block/hit the block..

I just put one like that on my 505'' 68 fastback , didnt use any terminal extensions , had to take it off to clear the headers . Gave $87 , exchange at auto zone ,
so far so good.

hi harry...

yes, i am always interested in meeting mopar guys around the Pittsburgh area. i live in Scott Township not far from the Scott park and have my 4 Barracudas in two houses i purchased in my housing plan. i'm actively working on the two 69's right now. i just bought a parts Tumbler/cleaner and a Titan Rotisserie from Eastland body products. my garage is small but i have a lot of parts and tools. i go down to the Sonic car cruise every wednesday in the summer and maybe we can meet up there.

Thanks Jim but I was referring to the 2005-08 Ram Hemi starter. It is smaller than the regular mini starter and stronger (1.7kw vs 1.4kw) - but I'm not 100% sure if it fits a BB. Rusty said yes and I also found a thread over at cuda-challenger.com where a guy said it fits. Anyways I ordered one (only $60) and give it a try.

By all means show us pics of it !!

I just installed the terminal extensions I bought off ebay.
"The Best" ones according to seller...
I'm not sold on using this. After having to enlarge the hole on small arm of "the best" one,
this still seems too close to the block. They should be facing AWAY from the engine, not toward. Not much is accomplished by using these extensions, IMHO.
Jim, how close is that wire connector to the block?

hey roadrunnerh...

i haven't measured the space between the new starter wire terminal and the block but it isn't a lot - maybe 1"? my plan is to run the battery wire on the outer side of the starter (fender well side) and tape up the terminal well to minimize any possible short between the block and the terminal. i think this will be OK and solve the potential short concern unless i run through a pile of small metal parts where a piece could somehow lodge between the block and the starter terminals. LOL! i plan on avoiding piles of metal in the road as much as possible.
