Guys/Gals: Back in the day, those of us old enough to remember the sixties would probably recall the things that used to be on your mirrors or dashes. For us Catholics, it was usually a St. Christopher medallion on the rear view mirror. Others had something else hanging there - perhaps a photo of your girlfriend or a good luck charm. What was on your dash or hanging from your mirror back in the day? Please send in your story and a photo if you've got one. I'll kick it off with mine. I've included a photo of the St. Christopher medallion on the inside rearview mirror of my '74 Duster. My mom and late dad used to have it in our green 1967 Fury wagon back in the day. The two metal prongs in the back would be pushed into the fabric headliner, and it dangled from the ceiling by the mirror. You'd see them a lot back in the day. When the wagon went away, the medallion migrated to my dad's dusty workroom in his basement, where I discovered it ten years ago. It'll live forever in my Plymouth, now. On this medallion, BTW, is an image of St. Christopher (which means "Christ bearer" in the Catholic faith tradition), the patron saint of travelers, along with an image of the Blessed Mother on the left. So how about you? Please send in your photo and story of what's in your ride - religious, secular, or whatever you've got. Thanks and happy new year!

My graduation tassel from high school and a roach clip my girlfriend of the time used to use. I kept the roach clip and dumped her. It was worth it.

nothing

but, i do have a medallion of saint Christopher in my might stand
my grand parents gave it to me

Ear plugs for when I fire the engine up with the headers open. My hearing is bad enough as it is from unprotected ears when I was much younger.

My first car had the tassel from my high school graduation for a few months - I took it down the first day of college.
I'm not Catholic, but I remember this...and saw quite a few of them back then...

From High School to present, at various times I have had a garter collection on my sunvisor, graduation tassel on the mirror, Buddy Jesus

on my dashboard, a tiny Teddy Bear my daughter gave me on the dashboard, a locket with my son & daughter's pictures hanging from the mirror, a dreamcatcher on the mirror, an elastic map pocket and map on the visor, and the ever present pine tree air freshener. Currently have fuzzy dice and a dashboard Hula Girl in my "66 Sweptline.

lol, and they still have a pleasant aroma that'll take you back to another time

I have my high school tassel , my grandparents had the dashboard Jesus on their '64 Newport. They used to get annoyed when I would say "I don't care if it rains, snows or freezes as long as I've got my dashboard Jesus"

I had the garter from my wedding for years, but since it is illegal in Illinois to have anything hanging from your mirror I don't do it anymore. It just gives the police and excuse to pull you over and try and find things that really matter to them...

Funny you mention that. It's illegal in NJ also (what isn't anymore). As an 18 yr old long hair I was pulled over for something else and the local cop told me to remove the tassel or he would ticket me for view obstruction. I put it right back up there after I left his sight.

I had the graduation tassel then a shrunken head with dreadlocks and it’s mouth sown shut. Now I have my daughters graduation tassel.

I hate to tell ya what people around here hang on their mirrors........................sigh.

For me, nothing, some areas here have outlawed it.

Just my tassel from graduation.

This is going on the mirror in my Fargo. Tomorrow it will be 1 year since she crossed the bridge. My son had 4 of these made and gave us ours for christmas. When the Barracuda becomes a driver it will go there.
