Fuel Tank Filler Neck Grommet

I might be wrong but I believe you can work it from the trunk. It may be a little tight. Others may chime in.

Just what are you asking? The fuel tank grommet for filler tube requires dropping the tank. To remove the filler tube requires removing trim and paneling along the left cargo area. Its not fun!

If an A body tank will come out without removing the filler tube, it seems like it would be easier and faster to drain the tank and remove it, replace the grommet, grease the tube and slide the tank back up into place. I've done B & E body tanks like that, but honestly can't remember doing an A body that way....or if it will even come out not removing the tube....because it wraps around the spare tire hole.

The filler tube will come out through the trunk after the tank is removed. I doubt very much that the tank and filler will come out as a unit.

The filler neck on a 65 Dart can be removed without removing the tank. If you can't remove the filler neck in the Barracuda the answer would be no. If you can get the filler neck out, the answer is maybe.

I’m in the process of ordering parts to replace the tank on my 64 Cuda. Looking thru the manual you need to take the the screws out at the gas cap and push the filler tube into the tank just past the fender. Then you need to drop the tank.

In My 65 Barracuda, I have removed the Gas Tank after pumping out the fuel and... Removed the Rear Shock Absobers for the needed Wiggle room... I did this all by myself ... to replace the filler tube grommet!!!
I dreaded doing it at first, but did not find it that difficult in the end... me being in my 70's by the way !
Yes, lightly grease the filler tube & grommet to reassemble.
And, have some blocks (2 x 4 precut to length) ready to support the tank while putting the tank strap back on... ( if you are by yourself )

Replacing fuel tanks on these cars isn't very hard. I end up replacing mine twice after the car slipped off a jack stand. Its the filler tube that's a pain.
