Are you as cheap as I am??

-
I bought my GF a book named "Cheap and Easy Vegetarian Recipies", which is perfect for her because not only is she a vegetarian....

I am old, raised by older parents that went thru the real Great Depression, same with my wife. They taught "frugule".
We have food in the freezer and pantry enough to feed a Mexican army for years.
I seen actually seen some hard times like many.
My dad would straighten used nails and reuse.

I have a friend that strains used ATF and runs his farm trunk on.
I was raised to clean my plate.... was told there are some kids in this world going hungry every day.
When I was a kid, hand me downs from my older cousin.... he had nice clothes... I still get excited about free clothes!
Dad would put that old 49 Chevy into neutral going down hills.
I hated when we ran out of gas.New spark plugs? ha

If I went drove hunting, dad counted my shells I shot and the number of birds brought home. Better be at least 2 birds per every 3 shells. The list is long.

The list is long.

I got a lot of my frugality from my mom she was a child in rural Alabama during the depression

I bought this 1970 Dart Custom for$70.00, in 1992. It was a complete non running 318/904 bench seat car, included 4 rallye wheels, caps and trim rings. Picture below is the first shakedown run, a month after it was towed home.

2 months later, drove through a blizzard in the Rockies back to Manitoba.

Fast forward about 7 years after having bought 13 other Darts as parts cars, and aftermarket quarter skins, finally made it to the paint shop.

Back home Sunday afternoon, and then I had a quick thrash to get it back together, running by Thursday night, and at first show and shine that Sunday.

Everything that went into that car was acquired by trading or parting other Darts, except the 1/4 skins and the TTI headers.

I purchased my car in 2009, my income was much lower then, I make 2.4 times more now. I had to be very thrifty in the beginning, but I always looked for online coupons, cash back, veterans discounts ETC. I learned that it does not pay off too well to buy cheap mechanical parts. There are ways to save money by buying used. I scored a really nice deal on a bumper jack that was in really ratty shape. I stripped that sucker bare with a wire wheel repainted it and it looks like a show piece. Use some common sense when it comes to being a cheap bastard, or you will regret it when you need to call a tow truck.

Im not cheap but I hoard parts. Its really paid off, especially with my E body cuda im getting ready to restore. Probably couldnt or wouldnt afford to at prices these days. I have been buying parts for it for close to 20 years.
The main problem with buying parts over a long period is that you end up buying the same crap twice. I have so many parts that I bought because I forgot I had already bought them.
