Love Winter ?

-
Hey when I was a kid, I hardly ever seen snow over on the coastal side, let's just say there's still time to change my mind. It does get really cold here & really hot but I'm here to stay. Living under a bridge being a ****** addict 9.5 years ago really helped me appreciate things in life
Congrats on getting clean. A great accomplishment. Too bad others can't follow you.
When you get to my age you learn to hate Winter and all that goes with it.
I'd just love Spring, Summer and Fall especially Spring and Fall when it's not so stinking hot and humid like Summer is. You don't have to shovel sunshine either.
Congratulations once again, I'm sure there's lots of help out there who want to get off the junk.
I do have a question for you though. We have clean injection sites here in Canada (as in the U.S. I'm sure). They supply clean needles and whatever they use instead of ******. Does this encourage people to continue usage or does it really help to get them off the stuff? There are lots of views from the experts but interested in your views having gone through it. Hope you don't mind me asking?

In my opinion on that is it is just like having a mom or dad who will give you money no questions asked. It is possible to quit any of the hard drugs, but the only way I know is changing everything, the so called friends gotta go, I had the opportunity to be in drug court; that put alot of responsibility on me & with the prison sentence carrot dangling in front of my head it made those responsibilities turn into building blocks to grow myself into a self respecting man again, I joined AA because I had an alcohol problem as well & also didn't have to hear the drug stories which were a sure fire trigger early on, I met alot of friends, my wife & finished all my stuff knowing I had done a great thing for myself. Hope that helps answer your question, but injection sites won't help anyone get clean, the hard part is getting thru the withdrawal period, mine lasted 47 days & it took another 4 months before I could eat, sleep & think clearly. But I still am involved in my recovery after 9 years because it saved me.
Even though I don't want to ever use again.

Use to hate Winter. But it keeps my sorry *** neighbor inside from playing Ghetto boom boom and 55 children outside playing in their Gubm't purchased pools. And not as many Pitbulls running around. So yeah, snow 10 feet now. I am good.....

i don't know...i'm starting to dislike summer. I can't walk around cruz night on that hot pavement!
Can't get out on the lake in that heat anymore either!

Congratulations on getting clean and sober, and keeping it together. I truly wish you the best that life has to offer.

Also, I thank you for an honest opinion as someone who has been there on whether or not injection/consumption sites are helpful. We had a "safe consumption" site here for about 2 years or less, that resulted in a tremendous increase in crime and no measurable reduction in actual harm. It was government funded (of course), and closed after an independent audit found serious financial discrepancies.

Yep, my once great city turned into a social experiment by those voted in 2015 & it has gone horribly wrong, so sad. That type of thinking at a Gov level is an infection & they don't care 1 bit about the taxpaying good people.

You know they make shoes for that, right?

I love winter at my new home up in the hills of Yakima WA, all the rain of the West of the mountains get dumped at the pass & sometimes snows here, we (the wife & I)
Had a beautiful white Christmas & I couldn't have asked for anything else for this year.
I looked out of my bedroom window a few weeks ago & saw a meteor shower, all the stars & planets visible in the dark over here, in Seattle there's so much light pollution it's difficult to see anything. I love to look up at everything. Knowing the distances of our celestial neighbors & their sizes keeps me humble & right sized.
Been there done that like laying on your snowmobile seat drinking apracoot apricot bandy and rye mixed 50/50 starring up at stars on -35 night can’t get it any better no light pollution here

I hear ya you can always put more clothes on but there’s only so many you can take off. Can remember snowmobiling coming across a 10 mile stretch of open farm land humming about 70 mph at -38 in my suit I was warm but you could feel every stitch that was exposed

I have hauled hay, sun up to sundown under bright and sunny skies in 100+F temps wearing a loose t-shirt and jeans. Some of the other guys were shirtless and one tough dude would wear cutoffs. Youth and continuous expose to heat helped a lot (none of us had AC in our lives at the time).

The heat was not the problem for us that cold weather was. To put on enough to stay warm, I would have to pad up like the little brother in “Christmas Story.” And what happens when you get wet? How can you pull a calf or fix busted water pipes wearing all those layers?

The limited time I spent in the ice and snow convinced me I wanted no more of it.

Since I am not a resident of the great white north, how do have manual dexterity in gloves or mittens thick enough to stay warm? How many sizes larger than your feet do your shoes have to be to have enough socks on to keep your toes from freezing? Does your construction (like home building and roofing) work stop in winter?

Not knocking you folks that live in the freezer - I wish more folks felt like you and quit moving here. I do know I might make a short visit (would like to see the northern lights), but I could never live there.

I learned something by watching the orchard workers picking Apple's in the heat, those dudes wear coats & **** but loose. I went to the drag strip to watch my buddy run his dart, I wore a long sleeve shirt & pants worked perfect (I'm a redhead) no burn no overheating

Well when you working you actually have to take clothes off to the point where you are comfortable. But if you’re standing around with your finger up your butt then you’re going to be cold different strokes for different folks I guess.

Thanks for being so honest on here. That speaks volumes in itself. I like you don't agree with the free needles and injection site. To me that just condoning it.
Many so called experts say different but until you get it from someone who's been there it brings a whole new light.
You sure had a battle on your hands not only getting off drugs but alcohol as well.
You're 100% right about getting rid of your so called friends who keep you in that world. Your wife and new friends and AA have pulled you out of a life of torture and a short life.
I think you'll always be in recovery but good for you, you're stronger than you think you are. Good luck in the future.

It's the humidity that gets me but other that I'm good.

So that was you in my back yard!!

Working outside can be difficult.
I cant anymore, my fingers go numb in a matter of minutes. feet? Proper gear its no issue. My nats are lightweight and i can go barefoot in 30 below or colder. I wont, but if i had to i could.

I have the same problem with my hands as well. I think it's from cutting glass and installing in machinery during the winter. Can't cut glass with gloves on. Fingers would be totally numb at times.

Watched a guy drop a fuel tank in a loader, remove inspection cover and reach into -45 diesel fuel to feel for obstructions on pickup screen.
Same guy cutting christmas trees, snow falling on his head constantly. Light leather gloves, soaken wet from head to toe. He was steaming! Nothing fizzed that guy.

Yup everything used to freeze solid until I got to about 25 30 years now just dress decent and go do whatever needs doing think it was a blood pressure thing. At 18 my doc took blood pressure 3 times shook his head told me to come back next week took it 3 more times shook his head an said well I guess it’s ok. 62 now smoker drinker love bacon fat blood pressure normal.

Well, to enjoy winter you have to be doing something enjoyable or working to stay warm.
