I know this is a little early but a couple of us are going to attend the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals this year (unless we are forced to hide in a basement in fear of our lives). Been going to the Mopar Nats for years since its only 2 hrs away. My question is, what is a good hotel to stay in or an area? Want to be close but yet near bars, food, etc.... All input is welcome. Thanks!!

All the motels at the intersection of Rt. 11 and the turnpike are find, near Hoss's and Denny's and other assorted restaurants assuming they make it through Gov. Wolf's Gestapo tactics. IF you can get into those motels because they are usually already booked. I have been doing Carlisle since 1992 and even went last year but I stay in my LQ trailer on grounds usually...

Mechanics burg is a good area, I live near Carlisle so Kind of know the area. Harrisburg is fine also a 15 Minute ride away. Longest part is finding parking at the gates.

Super8 Hotel on Alexander Spring Road isn’t exactly “deluxe” accommodations but it’s conveniently located right off the highway and you can travel to the car show on the back roads (no traffic) while driving through Carlisles Main St which has bars/restaurants/nightlife. Hoss’ SteakHouse and a diner are within walking distance from the hotel.
You’ll be on the opposite side of the main hotel strip so you’ll have a short drive on the hiway (81) to catch some cruising action.

Wrong...
Wolf is Luftwaffe.
Now I'll sit back and see what you have to say about the PA Secretary of Health.

Haha, you nailed it. Not 5 star, but damn it's convenient. Hoss's, Walnut Bottom, McDonald's walking distance AND it's got a good size gravel parking lot for unloading or trailer parking. Looked like a little tailgating going on, too! Got our rooms already booked. See ya there!

The hotels in downtown Carlisle are very convenient and you can walk to plenty of bars/restaurants. Comfort Suites is one but there are others. Harrisburg is more like 45 minutes away IIRC. Have stayed in Shippensburg, nice but also 45 minutes away. Have camped outside gate last 5 years or so...best experience and very convenient.

Hitler would have had "it" executed...
I just booked at the Sleep Inn for the first time a few miles south of the fairgrounds, I have gone to Carlisle the last six or so years ( except last ) I have tried to book the nice places: Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express etc. but people book them as soon as they check out the year before. None of the other hotels are great, some are down right nasty. Rundown, not cleaned properly etc. The owners know you have no choice and jack up the prices and do very little cleaning and maintenance. Be careful when you book make sure you can cancel and try to book right thru the hotel chains website ,booking thru other sites they charge your credit card right away rather than when you stay. Read the fine print, sometimes the lowest rate room can't be canceled. Make sure the rate you book at is the rate you pay once there, The Red Roof Inn changed the price after I booked to a higher rate when I stayed of course the front desk clerk knew nothing about it and couldn't do anything. I would book soon as even the not so great places fill up.

That’s good , they are always a nice clean place, I just booked the Sleep Inn last week

It's a little out of the way, but I would recommend checking out staying in Gettysburg. Lots of hotel options. Some excellent restaurants and some bars. And a nice 45 minute drive over and back each day. Also, the Gettysburg bike rally usually is going on the same weekend, so the town is packed with bikers who love the old cars and will not mess with them while you are there.

Booked mine yesterday Holiday Inn Express & Suites Harrisburg South- Mechanicsburg
Just off Rte 15 and Turnpike I like that area Fridays, outback, texas roadhouse carrabas etc lota more Thurs to sunday Drive the pike after show turnpike in morning
Got my showfield pass also Be sure to list FABO as club
Maybe a FABO tent ????

Will be driving the Barracuda from Texas again. This time the wife is coming so will have to sleep in hotel instead of a tent.

I got a room at the Comfort Inn right around the first of the year. I'm guessing since attendance was down, less people booked ahead? But I've always been pretty lucky with rooms there.

We always stay in Mechanicsburg, there are several hotels and it's a nice cruise to the fairgrounds every morning.

I went for the first time this past summer. I won't miss it again!!! We pulled our camper and stayed in a campground nearby. Hope to drive the 68 there this year ,have to teach her to pull the camper with the Ram. LOL

Count me in!!!
Thanks for the reminder thread. I just booked into a place I have stayed in the past - Shippen Place Hotel in Shippensburg. $76 per night Wednesday through Sunday if you have AAA or AARP. Great hotel right on Rt. 11 - direct route into Carlisle with no need for the Interstate, an easy 22 miles.

Count me in, too!! Booked a swap spot today and will likely have the custom 69 Barracuda there before it gets transformed back to day 2. Long trip but looking forward to it after this national isolation.
