I'm sure you guys know the story about how the larger Plymouth Super Sport model, that had been planned for introduction in 1962, was downsized at the last minute. The detailed story of the Super Sport appears in Collectible Automobile magazine for December, 1996.

So do you like the styling of the Super Sport? I'm undecided about it. It looks quite a bit like a '60 Oldsmobile, which was never one of my favorites.

On the other hand, the roof line is nicer than the Oldsmobile's.

middle looks like actual 62 B styling.

front sure does look like 64/65 Barracuda from this angle.

It's what I call overstylized. It could probably be made to be nice.

The roofline and the rear windows are nice.

I think Exner and his minions had discovered the powers of psychedelic drugs long before Timothy Leary, Hendrix, or the Beatles...
:D
I actually think it is a nice looking car. 62 Dodge and Plymouth B bodies were not popular when new. Nowadays
they are a design that is more popular now than then. I think they are nice looking cars and not many are seen today.
The 62 Sport Fury had 3 different trims that were tried to make them sell better. They were a design like no other
offered by Ford or GM. 63 and up had more traditional styling. I think their styling looked much better in a 2 door, including Valiants and Lancers.

Like the 62 dart and polara, they were so strange and ugly, but now I think there some of the meanest coolest looking cars ever made, I guess its their super stock heritage that helps also.

That illustration looks like it is missing a few inches out of the middle (lost in the binding of the magazine, probably). Note how the door sculpting just disappears. I think it would look more normal with 6 inches added to the door.

My friends and I called the ‘62 Uglies the ‘62 Uglies for a reason......they are ugly. That didn’t prevent one of my friends from owning a ‘62 Ugly former bracket car in the late 70s.

I like to look at 62 Furys and Savoys on eBay, and just when I think the face of ugly can't be out-done, I go and look at 61 Fury's and Savoy's. Then I have to find the Pepto and Mylanta, and I don't dare attempt to eat while doing this endeavor... it didn't work out so well that first time!

I think it was Riviera that had a similar bump up at the quarter window line.

Ya gotta remember, 62 was the first year without huge "fins".
Mine was ugly. - black, had a 343 h/p, dual 4 - 383.
Red interior, push button auto.
12.39 best in 1968.

The year 1960 saw a significant reduction of fin size and 1961 was the change to the abominable horizontal fin styling. I remember a writer from car craft saying that the whole design staff was probably part of the first Army/CIA LSD experiments...

I think the big three were all looking for a direction for styling in the late '50's and early '60's, especially GM and Chrysler. Remember the one year '58 Chevy and '59 wasn't much better. When Virgil got rid of the fins he did his "magic" to the front end of the '62's and some '63's. Meanwhile over at Ford they just introduced something called an Edsel...:(
Thinking back...the cars for the most part looked like crap, but in the big picture that was nothing compared to the big picture problems we have today.:soapbox:

The 62 is ugly. I call it the second ugliest car. The ugliest is any 61 mopar ( except Chrysler 300s!).
That said, i love mine, but freely admit it is an acquired taste. I bought mine, cause i got a maxwedge engine, needed a compatable body, and 62s are supposed to be the lightest B ever.
Some of the design studies for the early 60s mopars are pretty gruesome, but given enough time, i could get used to that one.

I think they did good not producing it. Should have just stuck with the 61 front end

The roofline reminds me of a notchback.
