Facebook Is A Cesspool

This is another issue I have with the “process” A seller lists something with a price. That’s obviously his asking, or opening price right? So a buyer calls, or stops by and asks what’s your lowest? The seller listed it at a price. Why in the heck would the seller list a price for something and then throw out a lower price?? That’s negotiating with themselves! The buyer shows up, looks things over, if he’s interested he makes an offer, hopefully an intelligent one, if he’s serious he does, and not a lowball because then the price remains as listed, or is ignored at least by me. Now buyers just do it via texting or email to avoid the in person interaction. It’s bullshit, the process has been bastardized. If you are a buyer you see the price it is then incumbent upon you to either make an offer or pass. Lowball and you just get a seller walking away. Just my opinion but.....

Simple. 1) the seller has no idea what it is worth, 2) the seller's buddy just said it was 'rare' and the seller thinks he has a gold mine, 3) the seller is trolling for that one person in a thousand with more money than common sense. Sometimes sellers need a reality check that what they're selling isn't the only one that was ever made.

Now I would agree with that analogy.

Yeah the other side of the coin is, so many people have no clue how to sell. Me, I'm always looking to buy something, parts, cars, something to keep money moving. Like a hobby that pays you,:) rather than my car that takes money from me. :( People place these ads giving no info. Oh it needs work, okay what does it need, a frame rail or a turn signal bulb replaced. It's free, your not paying by the word, write it on a piece of paper, take a picture of the paper and post it. Well, come and see it. I'm 250 miles away and don't need the drive to see something that looks like a great car and when you get there the pictures were angled to miss the problem spots, has happened to me ..Did you think Stevie Wonder was coming to see it. Craigslist was great in replacing the swap sheet, that I would run down to the store every Tuesday to get as soon as it came in. But of course idiots screwed CL up also. I'm not a fb person, so many of those clowns share their whole life stories, I have a family.

I sell a lot of stuff on the FB market, and to me it’s the same everywhere you sell. You get your flakes, you just weed them out, I also get a lot of people who do what they say, show up even if it’s pouring rain, pay my asking price and take their newfound prize home. I like the millions of people worth of exposure, and I’ve met and helped out a lot of people....here, there, and everywhere!

I sell alot of crap on facebook marketplace.

"whats the lowest you will take?" I always reply with one dollar lower than the asking price.

I always try to price things fairly. Sometimes i know they are a hell of a deal, but i would rather have cash in pocket than sitting on shelf rotting away.

The marketplace search sucks, but i have found a few things. I am usually looking for scrap to pickup.

If the ad does not have a price i offer to pick it up to get rid of it for them. If it is 12345 as the price i offer them $1.25

I NEVER believe someone is going to show up until they arrive. I only schedule meeting times when i know i am home working in the barn. (Milking cows) i never deliver anything because the bigger city thinks they are the center of the world. If they want it, they will come. If not, i can wait till someone wants it bad enough.

And you'll go through 300 that don't read the ad before the one normal person comes along. I've put a firm price on something and people still send "whats your bottom dollar?" Or they ask whats wrong with something when you post all known issues. I'm always very thankful when something sells lol

U nailed it most rode the little bus and licked the windows !!!
I love the dumb asses who ask if its still for sale / I respond by saying no its sold I just love to see how many Dumb Asses will ask if its still for sale !!

You could not pay me enough to have a Facebook account. I have a life, I have hobbies, I have intelligent friends to converse with and I have NO desire to follow (stalk) people I do not actually know. I have NO patience with stupid, moronic people who use Facebook to stalk other people.

Well said

My experience on FB Marketplace is pretty good.... The game never changed. Just the place to play. It will never be an Ebay nor will anything else and as well all know there is good and bad with that statement.....

It's always a seller's market if you want to hussle. Someone with the gumption's and focus can make a living off FB Marketplace. Some weeks will be better than others however it will all average out.

One thing that has helped me on bigger items is putting up a 20 mile radius delivery for a fee. If it seals the deal and adds to the piggy bank why not... It's also an opportunity to scan that area to see if there is low hanging fruit that needs a Trailer and such to pick up an item. Just one of my angles if I get bored and want to hussle some...

The way I get around it is I may ask that if the item is still available here are my digits and let's talk Turkey lol.... I also look at the amount of time an item has been listed. Never had a problem with it even when an ad says don't ask lol...

FB ads pretty will tell you what kind of seller listed that car. If it is a possibility, I wall ask for cell number and tell the guy I am serious about him answering my questions not spelled out in the ad. Not going to text back on forth. I will also ask the guy IF he has restored any of these cars, done any mechanical work on any of these old cars, etc. I can work with someone knowledgable, I cannot usually get along with idiots.
If the guy has no idea about anything related to the car, and if I want to go see it, that is a good time to explain a little to him about what I am looking for and what I will pay for such. His response tells me if I want to go any further.

Don't do social media but I do sell stuff on CL once in a while, on my terms. I can't stand doing "the dance" with the numbskulls described above.

To minimize my pain, I will correspond with them only via the CL email using my own throw-away email address, until I hear the "yes I want to buy it". If I still want their business, I will then email them my cell# and tell them "text me at this number when you are ready to come over and pick it up, and I will text you the directions to my house." If they can't follow these simple instructions (quite common) I forget about them and wait for someone who can.

I am selling a pair of new BFG 295/50R15's right now, $500 FIRM. Some dope emails me "my offer is $400 CASH". As opposed to what - $400 worth of vegetables ????

On the flip side, I sold a pristine Sun Super Tach II to a guy for $200. He contacted me once, showed up an hour later with 10 $20 bills. I took 9 of them and told him he qualified for the "no bullshit discount". He was a bit surprised but understood completely.

I don't do Facebook but I sell on CL and have had many good experiences. Met a few good people too. It pays to be clear when you are selling. Set a firm price or say OBO. Remove your item when sold.
I also like to add a disclaimer at the bottom....

If it's listed then it's for sale.
Here's how it works. You contact me. We arrange a location. You bring cash and I give you the item. No BS.

FB is ok for selling stuff, CL started charging to list vehicles so that's becoming less popular.

The discussion groups are atrocious, I had no idea how many idiots and misinformed people are out there until I joined some. Most people who ask questions related to A-bodies or Mopar I give them a link to this site and tell them to post here, they'll save a lot of time and grief lol

My wife is on the FB Barracuda group. She often says, “What the hell is wrong with this guy, check this S#%€! Out! He said xxxx” and laughs her *** off.

Ive also told her just leave a FABO link.

Many of these people that you talk about are right here on FABO. One of the many is down in Mopar Performance Issues right now. Countless people have led this guy around the world 50 times telling him what to do, you might as well be talking to a wall.
He doesn't have a clue, don't think that he ever will, and I am surprised at some of the people here on this thread have answered him. No one seems to want to tell him straight up that he has done it wrong, go back and do it right. I tried to tell him that, went right over his head, and everyone else keeps telling him do this, do that. I don't think that his engine will ever run right. Does put both of your cam gears at 12:00 sound familiar? They said this about Jimmy Carter, ' What he doesn't understand is that he doesn't understand. '
Go ahead and beat me up.

His initials wouldn't happen to be "LL" by chance? Lol there's this guy in a FB Plymouth Duster group who is seriously braindead he's blown up multiple 360s now and blames it on the engines themselves instead of his worthless "machinist" (Chevy engine assembler) who he straight-up said hates building and working on Mopar engines. Of course the guy can't be bothered to try building it himself. People tell him to get lost and go find a Chevy to play with instead but he sticks around for some reason, I think he's messed up in the head and needs the attention or something. I'm pretty sure @75slant6 knows who I'm talking about LOL

Seems like every time I check those groups someone is giving terrible advice based on decades-old urban legends like "put in a colder thermostat to stop it overheating" or "get rid of that junk Edelbrock/Holley and put on an Edelbrock/Holley" or "run a Mopar Purple Shaft cam those are the best for our engines" or "318/360 is a boat anchor you should get a 340" or or or... it never ends

I got a kick out of all this! At one point I thought ole Larry was just being the worlds biggest troll but after blowing another one and STILL not taking people’s advice, I think your diagnosis may be more accurate. I know there have been at least two or three knowledgeable Mopar guys who have offered to come to his place and fix the car properly and get it some care that it deserves but he’d never take them up on the offer. Instead, ole chebby machinist will build him another engine.

Actually, that was not the guy I was referring to, Love the A's.

I joined FB because I was looking for a truck. Craigslist seems dead. I found a truck, and thought I would sell off some stuff I don't need on FB market place. Nothing has sold. I had a guy contact me about an A body radio for$25.
I get a message "I want the radio, where can I meet you?" I tell him, then he says it's for his friend, and can he have my number. I give it to him. Guy calls, and wants to give me $20. I said no. He gets mad, and hangs up. Another guy(I guess) contacts me through regular text. Says he wants the radio. I ask how he got my info. Nothing.
The first guy messages me again today, and wants to meet me tonight, after 5. I told him I won't meet people at night. I will meet him this weekend. No reply.
One of my biggest peeves, is it seems most FB people want very close to new prices. Sometimes more than new. Why would I buy it from FB people, when I can get it from Summit, and not have to pay shipping, and if there's a problem, I can send it back. Oh well....

Bought a laptop had drive Friday. Emailed the guy through the relay and gave my cell and asked him to text me if he had any left (4) he texted me right back and said yes. Said I'd take 2 and can meet him up at a public place. Xy Starbucks with a red hat on. Sure, 15 minutes. Went there, handed me the drives , handed him the cash and bought a coffee to go. No drama. Sold a 340 short block for 800 at end of a Mopar car show. Guy asked of I could drop it off at his place on way home and he would pay me then. I said sure as I didn't have any offers on it. I get there and the guy says could only get $600. I was pissed...it'll be cash before delivery next time. Aw, just buy parts at the swap meet like the goold 'ol days....

Many years ago around 1975, I use to rebuild Muncie 4 speed transmission for a friend of mine. He would advertise them in the newspaper or Auto Trader. He would get stupid money for them 225-250. A lot of money then. If they called and offered less, he would tell them no the price is what was posted. If they continued one bit more. He would tell him sorry it’s not for sale. I seen people drive out to his house and try and buy it cheaper. I seen more than one time sorry it’s not for sale. Even if they agreed to the original price! But he must have known what he was doing, he went on to start Corvette Shop an Supplies in Tampa which is still in business thou his daughter and son in law run it now. Started in like 1978.

Oh I can ***** with the best of ‘em!! Many on Facebook are just bizarre I don’t get it, gotta be some of the same people that watch the “Masked Dancer” or other garbage I guess!
I have a new idea for a show,
"I can small your voice"
have those idiots from the other costume singer shows try to guess who is singing by what they ate for dinner.
Yes, I know it's stupid. So it should be a hit with the idiots
