Does anybody make headers that bolt right on my 65 barracuda formula s 273 commando without a lot of modification and doesn’t break the bank ?

TTI, Dougs, and Spitfire that Laysons sells. Most to least expensive. @Mopar Tim is putting some shorties on a stroker in a early A.

Cheap headers for an early A...Nope. Shorties on an early A with factory steering is going to be a new one for me. Of course 'cheap' to one may not be 'cheap' to another. @Mopar Tim let us know how that is going!

TTI's: Not cheap and not easy, but after you move some stuff around (mostly brake lines and wiring), they do fit. (The flange area will have to be modified to work with 273 small port heads.) Worth the time and money? For my 340, I think so. For a 273? Mmmm, not so sure.

How big is the bank? I agree with 65 Cuda 340, unless your 273 is tweaked to the max, it's not going to make a big enough improvement IMO.

Well my exhaust manifold has cracked and I was thinking header cause I have 318 police heads and a mild cam with edelbrock intake

According to these guys - https://www.hotrod.com/articles/testing-mopar-273-power-pak-dyno/ - TTI headers were worth 11 peak horsepower over the stock manifolds. That's with the stock hi-po cam. They didn't test with any other cam, and also don't tell us how much the low and mid-range picked up. Often, the increase in that area is more noticeable than the increase in peak power.

They do show you how they modded the TTI exhaust flanges for the 273 heads. (I'm not sure what your 318 police heads are; if they are basically 360 heads I assume the TTI's would not need to be modified in your case.)

Besides the headers, you'll also need (according to TTI) a special starter that costs somewhere in the neighborhood of $300.

If you're running a 904 trans, your installation would probably be easier than my 4-speed with 10.5 inch 340 bellhousing.

With reasonable mechanical ability, I'm sure you could handle putting TTI's in a 65 Barracuda. Or Doug's. I reckon only you can decide if the power gains would be worth the trouble.

You can use 340 hp manifolds maybe.
I am using Doug's on my 64.
Not cheap, but fit right in,no modifications.
Are the 318 heads closed chambers?

4323345 cop heads are 360 castings. 75cc open chamber 1.78 or 1.88 intakes (conflicting data) but the 318 never came with 4bbl heads, they just used the 360s on the limited 318/4 apps. Id try magnum logs...see if they fit. They flow pretty darn good for $50 a set, almost good 68 340 log numbers.

All the ones I had were 1.88" and the ports were sort of in between the older 273/318 size and the 340/360 size. Depending on both intake and exhaust manifolds, you sometimes had to do a bit of port matching. The intake valves are a bit shrouded on a std. bore 273.

I put Doug's in my 66 Barracuda with a 5.9 Magnum with power steering.

Doug's split into 3 pieces, 2 are slip joints and the other is bolt together flanges. Driver's side, had to pull the steering column and the torsion bar and feed them through the headers. Also had to put a few dings to clear steering coupler, and steering linkage. Passenger side, only had to remove the 90*oil filter adapter. Not cheap though!

Ya, the more i read, the less i want headers in my 65.
My manifolds are in good shape. So i will just leave it at that.

I'm with ya there. $1000 for 10-15 horse doesn't sound like a very good idea. LOL

I don't care what people say, I like wrapping headers in this application. Everything is so close, the upside of a wrapped header outweighs the downside. Quieter, cooler, better scavenging due to heat retention, not cooking MC, cables or starter if you go that low. I like!

I thought the same thing. I didn't wrap them all the way to the collector. Just to the junctions of where the two halfs meet. Yeah, it gets hot under there! Since these pictures, I swapped to Edelbrock Max-Fire wires that came free with the Air Gap. The boots on the plugs are much more substantial.

I'd like to have that done, but the cost always seemed excessive and I'm pretty happy with how the car runs. It won't be drag raced.
It would be interesting to see the numbers but I bet only a 8-10 hp increase at best. Probably $800? Just guessing. If we were running in the F.A.S.T. class it might be easier to justify.
