Hi everyone.
My name is Noah, and i am from Switzerland.
First i want to tell you, that this forum is a great source of knowledge.
I recently bought a 1970 Crysler Valiant with a stock LA 318 and 3 gear automatic transmission. (No mistake there, the Plymouth Valiants were assembled in Switzerland, and rebranded as Chrysler)
The engine has open chamber 8.8:1 compression heads. Its quite low mileage (about 53000 Miles) and sounds really healthy. I would like to do a mild street performance build. (Heads, porting, 4bbl with intake, mild cam, ignition, long headers and a 2"double pipe exhaust) Nothing to fancy. Maybe it will be used as daily driver.

Now comes my problem: When i order performance parts to Switzerland, the shipment will cost me an arm and a leg (the parts including shipping will be about 3x the price you pay)
And my budget won't allow that.

My idea would be to buy used parts from a scrapyard.

If i could get my hands on:
-a used 340 or 318 magnum camshaft
-a pair of used 318 magnum heads (if it will fit with pushrods and rockers Or do i need the AMC style pushrods and rockers?)
-a used 600cfm 4bbl carb

,order the ignition, and the intake manifold for the magnum heads, slap on long headers that i already found used, do some gasket matching and porting, would this build be worth the time and money?

The exhaust system (except for the headers will be fabricated by myself, probably with dynomax silencers.

If the magnum heads aren't an option, could i machine the stock heads for compression and do a valve job (stock valvesize) and porting?

Any input would be greatly appreciated, because in Switzerland it is hard to get any information on this topic.

Greetings: Noah

Welcome to the forum Noah! I talk frequently with Schyrjajew and robodhran who is from Wettingen and visited him and his family in 2018. I possibly can assist on shipping parts.

I will attempt to translate for everyone in the US:
"Da isch jo schnell gange. Mache gern es paar Fotos." - "Damn dude, post some pics please!!"

"Aber bis am Wucheend wird da nöd möglich si." - I'm jealous, I'm a Mongol (or, My name is Mongo)"

"Gruess us Wil SG" - "Guess you have an SG rear in that thing??"

Hello welcome to the site. I’ve been lucky enough to visit Switzerland twice. By far my favorite country gotta snowboard in Zermatt. Everyone there was pretty friendly.

I ship part to Switzerland from Chicago a couple times a year to a Mopar guy there. He usually has parts shipped to my house in Chicago and I gather them all, repackage them, then take them to a shipping company. He uses Fracht, AG as a shipping broker.

My translation was pretty close???:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I have shipped parts to members in Switzerland, France, England, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden via the USPS. FedEx or UPS adds on their fees and really makes shipping by them really expensive. Largest thing was some carpet to Switzerland and it still was able to go by the PO

for a daily driver i would cut and port the heads 20 th add a 4 bbl intake get a decent cam and carb , thermoquads work really well if you can find one . that or a holley 670 street avenger and headers and you will have a decent daily driver that will be fun to drive and get decent gas mileage . i did the above on a 72 318 and it was quick , would smoke the tires easily . and did not cost an arm or a leg , did most of the work myself . Good luck

Welcome from Germany!

do you know Natalie & Thomas Haas from Wahlen / CH? They do run a impressive 69 Valiant with a BB mopar. As far as i know they do have at least two 69 2dr Sedan Valiants - one street and one race setup.

regarding your wish list: a set of magnum heads should be available in CH, or consider buying a complete engine from a scrapped Dodge Van or Truck. They make a good powerful and reliable engine. If you want to use the mag Heads only, buddy of mine does have a set of the correct length Oil-trough pushrods for the conversion. Another buddy has got a used Comp PP280H cam (part no. 20-670-4) that ran in such a hybrid engine. Just let me know if you need such parts.

HEY....no fair, I can't read Spanish!!!:mad::mob::BangHead::poke:
I thought my eyes had crossed trying to read that post

Welcome Noah! Yes, AMC lifters and hollow pushrods would be in order for Magnum heads. Another thing is the Magnum engines had roller cams, and your '70 block (assuming it's original) does not have the taller lifter boss for roller lifters nor the bosses for the spider. You could do retrofit lifters, but that's not exactly using junkyard parts. IMO, I would buy a new cam or use the one I had before using an unknown junkyard camshaft, or buy the whole Magnum engine and swap it (if you can).

ah Schwitserdeutsch, doesnt sound like anything, and if you speak perfect german, you'll be in for a real let down, if you think you'll be able to understand that

i spend a few summers near Zurich as a teen
had some of the best times i cant remember

Hey. Thanks for the kind responses.
Treblig: Que pasa?

HemiSSDart and 65 Dart: Nice to know. I will send a private message.

Locomotion: Of course. 1 Toblerone for an intake manifold?

Nat: Sounds good. Would be cheap and easy. If i take of 20th, in what range of compression would that put me? I would like to use 98 octane fuel. 100 octane is a bit expensive.

Dart_68: Thank you! Greetings back.

360Duster: Thank you! I stumbled upon their website, while researching. I have sent them a mail, but got no response so far. Sounds good. I might come back to that sooner or later.

RammerJammer75: A whole engine swap would be possible. The problem with that is, we have to go to mandatory inspection every two years. They know the engine identification number, that belongs in this car. If the engine has a different number, you won`t pass. Our law is pretty restrictive when it comes to modifications on cars. Everything i want to do to the engine, that isn't replacing a stock part with a stock part is illegal.
If i buy a new camshaft, for what type of cam should i go? The idle should be good and consistent.

diymirage: Every 20 miles, people have a different accent. There are certain accents, other swiss german people will have a hard time to understand.

If it has to be stock, I would buy a 340 cam shaft. It will idle nice and be a much better improvement over the stock 318 cam.

I seem to remember going to the movies there
The movie was in English
Subtitles in german
Under that subtitles in French
And across the top subtitles in Italian

None of which worked well with my Dutch
