Yeah I fear that one day we will have to reuse "old" USA made stuff. there is a way to check /clean oil pumps for example. You can also disaasemble and clean out/ inspect lifters too by the way. The standard practice is to just replace them, but if they are catastrophic failure prone due to the "overseas" factory using plastic or aluminum, you are better off with the old metal part keep in mind the "powers that be" dont want these old cars on the road. it will be difficult and expensive in the future to drive old iron..:)
