Do you undo and or change all you have done and spent countless $$$ to resurrect and keep an original or modify to the next level? Or do you sell a mostly original car and start over again? Knowing you will never get the return on the dollar to sell for what it cost to get it there.

Seems I want to move forward and at a personal delima! Car has been back on the road now for 6 years as such. It has won many awards over those years at the shows.

I know you can pull the drive train and replace without totally changing the fabric of the car per say, but I also know As soon as you do that it all leads to more mods. Bigger wheels and tires, mini tubs or full tubs, and or much more, and perhaps a late model Hellcat Hemi and wiring and such.

Is a restored original uncut “very” solid rust free 69 383s Fastback auto trans car worth enough to save? One of 272!

Or is a killer low riding late model Hemi with air and all the creature comforts more desirable enough to mod a real BB “S” car.

Would you do this or try to sell at a loss and start over with a lesser car?

Opinions are welcome.

If you can afford a crate hellcat for this car, you can find another a body to chop up. If you REALLY want to keep the B block, and get that kind of power, build a 400-470 stroker. Then just stuff that original 383 under a piece of tempered glass and stick it in the living room. If your wife can't handle a 383 coffee table, get rid of her, you don't need that kind of negativity in your life anyways. If you need a super charger, get a roots style, and then stick it on the 470, or build a new Gen2 hemi. Mancini has new Callies bare blocks. It'd cost you less than a Hellcat mill, no $2000 wiring and computer plus you get to keep your 727, even more $avings.

If you're eager to sell your 383 S at a loss, I got $318 in my checking account right now I can paypal to you.

You can pick either 4.250" or 4.500" bores.

I happen to have a 72 “I think” 400 handy. One of the reasons I am thinking!

I will pass on the checking account though!

That 400 is a 4 barrel original motor with the boss holes to drop right in and would be a great mil if done right and brought to 470, really not my issue per say.

The 383 mil is strong and fine.

I want modern comfort in an old body.

Original examples are vanishing by the day/month/year. Find a good body of a "lesser" car and create a clone/twin of what you have, but with a sinister attitude.

Or do what you want with the current car to satisfy your itch, but not to the point you can't put it back if you should choose to do so.

If you want to modify your car keep, label & safely store all of the original parts. If you decide to sell at a later date, you can either sell as modified, with the original parts or restore it back to it's original glory & sell the parts you modified it with to some one else. Another option would be to keep the modified parts & build a street scorcher out of a 4 door A body.

i'd mod but not cut. if you can mod with all bolt ons then do it.....

I'm actually doing this with my Shelby Dakota. I bought it new in March of 89. Have kept it all original forever. It needs paint and stripes again as well as every gasket on the motor is leaking from age. Plan is to stash the original 318 under the bench and drop a mild 360 in its place. Also removing the original hood so I can cut up and scoop a hood like I've always wanted to do to it. A couple of other mild mods and wheels. Nothing that can't be undone relatively easily.

Sell 1 of 272 S car use money to buy Challenger.
Let another caretaker enjoy your nice 383S as an unmodified original as you have during your ownership.
JMO.

Maybe a classic vintage air conditioning system and power steering will make my happy. Looks like either will keep the car intact for the most part and are bolt on! I do not want to drill holes, and looking at the classics air system I can find ways to do that!

Tunes are not and issue now, or in the future, Bose box and IPhone serve me well now!

Keep in the back of your mind-if you sell it, the new owner puts a stinking LS in it. Scary thought!

Do something unique with it. A high rev 383 maybe. Get another 383. Build a bulletproof bottom end for high rpm. Knife-edge steel crank with aluminum rods, light pistons, balanced, etc. Oil system to match, 1/2" inlet or better. Then a top end to match, Trick Flow or Indy heads. Match the cam and breathing, big headers, intake, etc. Find a proven combo to duplicate, and rev it to 8000.

If it's a numbers matching 383. Then pull it, pickle it, and store it. Then build that 400, stroke it, and make it appear stock like the guys that do the stock appearing drag race cars do.

Otherwise, buy a nice dart or something else for that 400, and make a terror out of that. Leave the 383-S as is.

Do you have the specs on this? I am very curious.
Legendary member Paul Caesarene first made me aware of it. His family was involved with NHRA drag racing for a long time. 284/484/ cam, 780 Holley, dp4b or similar intake, I believe headers in the trunk too. I will look for it. The GTX managers put the kibosh on it from what I heard.

Nik-Nak,

Be advised, that the 1963, 1964 and 1965 - 383/330 HP Engines came thru with
a different Camshaft.

These were the same Camshafts found in the 1964 and 1965 - 426/365 HP

And in mid-1968, Mopar almost 'pulled-the-trigger' on a 383 Super High Performance Package.

Thanks for pushing the hoarder button and sending me to craigslist to look for a 383. Why do you do this to me?
:BangHead:

Because anyone who knows me know I worship the 383. It was the car that got me hooked as a 9 year old.

About the same age for me. My dad's RED '66 Coronet Convertible with a 383. I was so disappointed when he sold that car.
Then my best friend in high school with his '66 Charger with the

It was a very underappreciated engine. It spanked alot of the 396 station wagon engined cars (the cast crank 325/350 engines.) They coundnt rev near a 383 magnum.
