Hello everyone, I posted a thread yesterday wondering if anyone had re-purposed the backs of their bucket seats. Thanks for the help so far @str12-340
My car is a 1970 dart swinger that originally came with a bench seat and an owner previous to me switch it out to bucket seats. I was originally looking for a repair for the backs of the seats as the paint is flaking/ chipping off. I was hoping I could sand them and paint them to get me by for the intern.
I was just wondering if anyone had any idea what year my seats are from incase I have to order new seat backs for them!
In the photos attached you can see the seat back push button and that the hinge covers are metal! I’m not sure if this needed but my car originally is a low level slant 6 from Alberta, Canada

From my recollection those look correct. But I know someone on here will know for sure. Expensive seats.

I found 'em. 1971 Dart GT and Custom and 1971 Plymouth Scamp. Legendary makes replacement covers. To check it out, go to Legendary Auto Interiors. At the top of the home page on the right hit Custom Design Center. Type in 1971 Dart, then click on 1971 Dart GT. Same intricate stitch pattern, same metal emblem in the seat backs, check out the bucket seats and then the back seat. They are truly excellent seats!!! I would bet that the hinge covers on yours are metal. If so it was an early 1971 model (before 12/1/1970) and takes the newer style seat back. They were the high end interior for that year. A new set of seat covers like that would run you over $700!

Wow!! I’m not sure how you found them but that’s awesome!!! Thanks again for all of your help it’s very appreciated

Saw your exact back seat in the Year One catalog (they sell Legendary upholstery) so I went Legendary's web site.

Those are some nice looking seats. I would be careful "sanding " the backs of those. You dont want to lose the texture.

Thank you! I was a little worried about sanding them as my fingernail can scrape off the textured part! I wasnt sure if anyone had refinished them before. Was wondering what others had done as I was thinking about trying to repurpose them and if it doesn’t turn out well the spending the money and paying the shipping from legendary
Thanks!

Sounds like the backs may be "sun stroked"?? I would look for another set of backs and while searching for those try to repair yours? You could cover them with a thin vinyl/fabric?

Yes could be! I think I’ll try and fix these up with some sort of vinyl or something and try to find the best place to get the seat backs from ie. any Canadian companies
Thanks again

Try a small spot with Easy Off Oven cleaner, see if it lifts the paint. That or the Purple degreaser..

Whereabouts in Onterrible are you? I'm just outside of Peterborough.
I made speaker boxes for our cuda, with material from Fabricland. Maybe check there if close?? They have LOTS to choose from.

Peterborough is a nice spot! I’m from Sarnia. My dad is @Dave 74 Dart not sure if you’ve seen him on here or not.

Took a putty knife and gently scraped the flaking pieces off, sanded with 400 grit and then 600 to take all the high spots out. Will try priming and painting it and if not I’ll maybe try fabricland like @4spdragtop suggested
I may just have to order some from legendary or another dealer.

Yep, I've seen Dave post on here. I may have met him at Moparfest?? I lived in Camlachie while I worked for OCWA.
Right around the corner from shores of Lake Huron and Point Edward. Beautiful there as well! Ran the water plant for a short stint right beside the pub(handy) HUGE wings. Brights Grove.
Small world. Wait for moparfest (fingers crossed) for seat backs? I'm a bit of a purist, but those backs would look good covered in a fabric that closely matches those seats. Those are nice looking seats!
My one sons name is Connor lol. Dads got good taste in cars and names lol.

Small world!! You must be talking about skeeter Barlows.. indeed great food!! Definitely a summer town! Hopefully moparfest will be back sooner than later! I will definitely be looking for some seat backs but trying this repair for the time being!
Thanks and Cheers

Thanks to all that have replied and given ideas to help my son out ! I hope this covid crap gets wrapped up enough that Mopar fest can open up and we can meet up with some of you guys this summer. Steve- did you get your welder fixed or did you move on to a better one? Ours is still going strong( fingers crossed) , Conner just finished putting in patch panels in the front floor pans of his dart. Now on to his seat backs... Thanks again guys.

Yep Skeeter Barlows! Good food, wings were pterodactyl size!
Havent given the welder a good try yet. Del, @67Dart273 repaired the board for me. No luck/help with Canadian Tire(no surprise). But I give it a quick try and it sparks and moves wire. Once we get a warm spell I'll give it a better try on my lca's with stiffening plates.
Fyi I checked Moparfest website and its "tentatively " on. I just gotta get working on the 67:BangHead:
