Help Shifter Handle Removal 69 Swinger

-
Wait a minute....did you say that you need to drill out the shifter?? I thought it was the shifter handle. The shifter shouldn't hard coated but it might be hardened. More pics of the shifter are that needs drilling, both sides.

someday i will own a nice drill but set.
The technical term is "drill bit index":

I have my share of drill bits that I've bought at garage sales for pennies on the dollar:

So if I go the route of not drilling this shifter (I could make the duster a stick in the future with my OD unit..../6) then I am exploring options of a new or used shifter. I see that some have a curved reverse arm sticking out the bottom. Mine does not. Is it important to have that the same?

Also, I had a mighty good time with my Richmond with an inline V Gate shifter (Long) back when racing, so has anyone successfully grafted that type of setup to work in a console car? If not is there a shifter out there for an A833 that mimicks that kind of action? Or should I just pound the pavement for a 'hurst competition plus" with straight shift levers.

Sorry if these are dumb questions, just trying to keep this project moving and these are important (to me) aspects that end up costing a lot of Cashola if/when I get them wrong. I have shifted (yes, intended) the original topic of the thread.

Love,
Your Hot Roddin Fool

EDIT
I am remembering the grand canyon chasm cut into the floor to make those V gates work now.....Not willing to cut that much....but Ill leave my post alone. Who knows what you guys have seen/done? The skys the limit!

"I have shifted (yes, intended) the original topic of the thread."

That was pretty smart of you to use the word "shift" to keep your comments relative to the subject line!!:thumbsup:

Thanks, I know its off topic. Does a guy start a new thread or jump ship and find the thread that is similar?

Looking at this one
Hurst Competition/Plus Shifters 3914076

It's your thread, that makes you "The King". If it was someone else's thread then it would be different.:poke::thumbsup:

Uh, not the original publisher......we should probably get outta here!

Thanks for all your help Sir!

Maybe the Mods can just delete the second page. Then its clean.

@toolmanmike

Isnt that the mod who handles (ha ha, get it? shifter? handles? a stretch ...but stay with me here) these things?

I certainly wouldn't drill holes in the shifter to install that pistol grip. Of course, people told me not to cut my six pack manifold so that it would fit my engine. Maybe try and find a Competition Plus shifter body? Pistol grips look cool, but didn't like shifting them hard.
Just saying

Oh, I'm using a dog legged T handle for a console car. I think that pic is from an example of the disassembly process.

have you disassembled your shifter yet? if not try this...

get a regular hammer and hit the shifter where the shifter goes into the shifter mechanism. hit it on all four sides hard enough but not too hard to dent the metal. these shift handles slip down into the mechanism. it is possible that both these metals have fused together with corrosion or rust. this is my best suggestion. the other possibility is to remove the plastic handles and apply heat from a torch.

let us all know if you get this problem solved. it will be helpful for someone else here.

Just to close the loop on this one. I ended up buying a new competition plus shifter and saving my old setup for the 360 duster swap.
