PayPal alternative ?????

-
I got a message yesterday that EBag is moving away from PigPal. They are going to do Bank to Bank money transfers in Feb.

Problem for us Canadians.
Post office no longer does american money orders.
We use alot of E-tranfers, i dont think many banks do E-ransfers to American banks. (I knowbmine doesnt) Unless you go into the bank which is a hassle.
Paypal seems to cover everywhere.

I tried a moneygram once and it all went to hell so i wont do that again.
Western Union was a giant hassle as well. Wont do that again either.
I stick with paypal as it seems to be accepted everywhere now.

I've got an UPDATE of sorts...
I got an email from PayPal this morning saying my account is now limited, due to 'suspicious activity '.
Coincidence? Not in today's world...

I sold some stuff to a member here, that's Canadian. PayPal has a $5 transfer fee to me. I don't know if this is a Trade thing, or a PayPal thing.
Isn't the exchange rate bad enough..?
Doesn't seem fair to my Canadian friends.

It is a currency exchange. It is expected. It may suck but it is what it is.
Paypal has never charged me a transfer fee.
Want me to get into the new trade deal? It will get very political quickly.
Wait till the part gets to customs and pay an additional 13% on the part being shipped. Guess we pay for our healthcare somehow.

There have been several threads created about discontent with PayPal..
Bad enough when it was joined with Ebag, causing complications with disputes.
Now I learned PayPal is owned entirely by CHINA. I REALLY don't want China getting 4.47% of MY money.

Question now is, which online Pay platform do you use ??? there are over 15 to choose from.
I don't want to loose the ability to purchase from my FABO brethren.. Idea's ??
I have used an echeck process through my local bank to transfer money out of state.

Paypal is not "owned by China". It is an American company. Like MANY American companies, they're on the stock exchange, and anybody can buy shares. Check your facts before posting nonsense.

It did recently land a deal to do business in China, which is not at all the same as being owned by China.

99.9% it's a scam. PayPal doesn't send out emails like that. Hopefully your habit of accepting everything you read on the internet didn't lead you to follow any links on that email and enter your login information.

Lots of emails and even text messages come out that are scams. They say they're from a bank, or PayPal, or whatever. Suspicious activity, fraud activity, unknown purchase, whatever. Your account is frozen, click the link to go to your account. Pretty much all of them are scams. If you get one, NEVER click on the link. Always go to the account in question through your normal method or call using a known good phone number. If you click the link, it takes you to a dummy site that steals your information.

Most banks and similar that send text account alerts and emails will not include a link anymore for this reason.

I get the scam emails from PayPal. The first thing i notice as it’s all lowered case, also misspelled words often are found.

Typically there are "tells", misspelled words, random weird characters in the email or text. And if you look CLOSELY at the web address you'll see that there's a typo in that or some extra nonsense compared to the legitimate company's web address. Because obviously the scammer has to have a different web address.

But all these scams have gotten better, they're not nearly as obvious as they used to be. I got text that was pretending to be from one of my banks about fraudulent activity on one of my cards, I thought it was legit. Fortunately I NEVER click on any of the links I get in email or texts as a rule, and when I went to my account there was nothing there. Looking at the text again I found some "tells", but at first glance it looked legit. And of course getting a notice about some big dollar charge on a card you didn't make gets you going a little and you get in a hurry. Which is what the scammers are counting on. You're in a rush, you click the link, and enter your info before your better judgement kicks in.

I had this conversation with my mom, as there are a lot of these scams out there. Told here the same thing - NEVER click on a link you get in an email or a text from a bank, or PayPal, or eBay, or any company where you do business or have credit information at. Always go to your account in the usual way and check first. If the email or text is legit, when you log into your account the evidence will be there and you can start making phone calls.

Actual PayPal communications will ALWAYS address you by your name as shown on your account, not "Dear Client" or some other generic salutation.

I opened a Venmo account last year since a guy I deal with regularly doesn't like PayPal. Though it's a subsidiary of it, reading the fine print and using it has proven it has NO FEES for money transfers. It's worked out beautifully every time without a hitch, and they even send monthly statements. I have no idea how they make it profitable but I like it. I'm happy to use it for my shop too if any customers prefer it over its "Dad." Just message me for my cell number.

I "bet" that's a scam phishing email. I get those and delete them and my account is just fine.

I just took some more time to look at it, and indeed it was. Looked more fishy as I looked it over.
Thanks to all who threw that flag for me!

That's a phishing email trying to get you to log in through a portal that is NOT paypal.

85% of the float is held by institutional investors. So unless china wrestled that number down to 70% or less... they don't own the last 30%. Not to mention retail that owns shares.

I pay a p/p fee and a currency conversion fee most transactions. 4.9% fee 8% conversion fee. The only time I don’t pay a currency conversion fee is when the money comes as usd and I buy from the USA. If I put it in my bank account then I get charged again. I would prefer to take a moneygram. Kim
