PayPal alternative ?????

I get the scam emails from PayPal. The first thing i notice as it’s all lowered case, also misspelled words often are found.

Typically there are "tells", misspelled words, random weird characters in the email or text. And if you look CLOSELY at the web address you'll see that there's a typo in that or some extra nonsense compared to the legitimate company's web address. Because obviously the scammer has to have a different web address.

But all these scams have gotten better, they're not nearly as obvious as they used to be. I got text that was pretending to be from one of my banks about fraudulent activity on one of my cards, I thought it was legit. Fortunately I NEVER click on any of the links I get in email or texts as a rule, and when I went to my account there was nothing there. Looking at the text again I found some "tells", but at first glance it looked legit. And of course getting a notice about some big dollar charge on a card you didn't make gets you going a little and you get in a hurry. Which is what the scammers are counting on. You're in a rush, you click the link, and enter your info before your better judgement kicks in.

I had this conversation with my mom, as there are a lot of these scams out there. Told here the same thing - NEVER click on a link you get in an email or a text from a bank, or PayPal, or eBay, or any company where you do business or have credit information at. Always go to your account in the usual way and check first. If the email or text is legit, when you log into your account the evidence will be there and you can start making phone calls.
