I made one out of plywood years ago to hold my aftermarket stereo... used cardboard templates to get the shapes right, then transferred to 1/2" ply. Ended up disconnecting the heater/diffuser under the dash, and using the two bolts/studs to attach the "console" to the underside of the dash that way. Radio works, the console doesn't move, but it's not the prettiest.
Now that I'm no longer a high schooler trying to choose between tunes and my car, I'll likely remove it this summer and just enjoy the engine sounds. I'll see if I have any photos, but like I said, it's not the prettiest.
