I was following tony's threads for a while. Then I started hearing him say things that he is totally telling stories about. Lies made up to cover his previous lies. That was all it took for me. Now we watch him to laugh. He does try but he is way out there on some info. Like throw a 318 crank in a 340 because it is internally balanced? What about bob weight due to heavier pistons and rods. Fact check Tony, You will not believe how wrong he is on some things

Be careful, your gonna get labeled a "hater" like myself! He ain't concerned about no bobweight if he ain't concerned about putting standard bearings on a .010 under crank.
 
I like to watch him. Some things he says seems screwy, but it sure gets me motivated to get to work on my projects. He’s gotten multiple cars running while the same car I’ve had is sitting for 15 years.

I think I'd rather stare at a cylinder head and admire it like it was set of tits while drinking a beer ..or even watch paint dry...than watch uncle phony's gayrge.

Its like anything and everything, I take all advise as being some ones opinion. Even the most knowledgable can sometimes have screwy ideas.
 
He seams like a great guy to spend a day with. I first saw him looking at a red 71 fake Duster for a girl. Some things he was correct on but other things he was just winging it.

I believe with some cash Tony could be on TV. He just needs to get some facts together before he films. I'll watch him just for the info that is good and a laugh or two. Reminds me of my early days.

I find the hate on this site too much sometimes, for a while I barely came on here, I’m more active now.

I love a good debate just hate when it turns ugly with name calling and ****. Shame this is a really good site probably helps a lot of people and probably confuses the **** out of some :)

So many different philosophies going on here which is a good thing to me but someone wanting something as simple cam 4bbl duals to the 318 car recommendations good luck to them to figure out who to listen to LOL.
 
Just goes to show that many things on YT purported to be 'fact' are....just opinions.
 
I’ve watched UTG and Nicks Garage a bit. Defeo reminds me of most of my almost-life-long-at-this-point gear head friends. We didn’t have much money. Some of us didn’t get a GED until they were in their 20s (all did eventually...)
So we made mistakes, we broke stuff, we lost, but we learned, broke less, and lost less as the learning curve got less steep. I think that’s where Tony sees himself now. I enjoy watching him. Not because he’s a perfectionist, or because he knows everything. He isn’t, I think he knows less than he thinks he does, and his level of acceptability is way different than me, but he is entertaining and I’m sure if we were in closer proximity we’d get along fine.
In regard to Bottle Rocket- unless he makes some major alterations in quality control, parts selection, and possibly driver I don’t expect that car to hit the tens unless it’s rear-ended by an 8 second car at about 800’ out. But it is fun to watch, and occasionally I do learn something I can use... I’ll continue to watch UTG, recalling episodes in my youth and smiling about them.

Ok his minions selected the 318, what were they thinking? The rest of the car is sad for a 10 sec car seriously? He will die in that more door before he gets even close. How many times is he going to mis the 1-2 shift? Not banging on guys rigging together some car parts and thrashing it and then throwning more junk at it. But don't blow a ton of sativa smoke up our arses believing it is going to run a 10.99 or better. It reminds me of guys boosting a engine to near death with large #'s on a dyno " on the stock bottom end" then on the way home it implodes trying to pull on a vette.
 
Ok here is a HP calculator. 1/4 Mile ET Calculator (robrobinette.com)
Quick summary. A somewhat generous weight number. Thats 515 to the WHEELS. The 318 in question might make 325 to the crank. Thats a a TON of spray needed. No **** box is going to get there. A lot of folks with no real 1320 time talking out their asses.

Pick any calc you like it will be essentially the same story.


Car weight: 3400 w/driver

Wheel horsepower 515

60 Foot Elapsed Time = 1.67

1/8 Mile Elapsed Time = 7.37

1/4 Mile Elapsed Time = 10.92

1/4 Mile Trap Speed = 131 mph

  • Minions? I don't know, ask them. There is about 170k of them. I suppose another 408 stroker (sigh, yawn*) should have been on order. After all, 318'swillrun :D
  • The car is sad? Roadkill style builds are my absolute favorite.
  • Blow a ton of smoke at folks?? 12 dollar long block has run 8's in the 1/8, of course no NOS yet. It's just a mule motor. He said he plans on blowing up 2 or 3 along the journey
  • Missing the 1-2 shift??? At least he has the guts to put it out there for all to see. Linkage issues. Fixed it and he shifts now without lifting on the gas.
  • I started a thread "10's on 5k?" and literally had folks mad. No, really they were mad. I was called names. Laughed at. Really??? It's that disturbing?

He only needs the engine to live once with 250-300 hp of nitrous, I don’t think reliable and consistent was part of the plan.

Sorry to hear that 318willrun I feel what you do helps a lot of the low dollar 318 and even 360 guys. It gives them some kind of blueprint to follow and prove a little can do a lot.

Yep, if it runs a 10.99 once mission accomplished. He's not shooting for a consistent bracket racer cutting the perfect tree. Nobody has to agree with UTG, I don't agree on some stuff myself. I don't understand the hate, and what I mean by hate is remarks of the typical name calling you see here or spiteful remarks.....
  • Personal attacks on his looks, and needing a bath. His cars and home are very clean
  • His followers (or minions) are not intellegent.
  • He is a liar :rolleyes: Even though he post all his mistakes for all to see.... LOL
  • He is a shyster. How many people have testified about how fair he was with them in their dealings???
Etc, etc. It's one thing to disagree, but the remarks are hateful and for what? Did he do something personally to them??? If so, i wish they would start a list. They cannot. So, to me, it's jealousy
 
Look I like him and I think I bought parts for my demon from him and that went fine. But as Scottie says “ya canna change the laws of physics.”
All he really needs is a plate and a fogger setup, and enough piston, rod, crank, and block to hold that going on and off 3 times(because he shouldn’t need or want 4th). And a transmission able to do it. And a rear able to hold it. And a guy able to shift it. but I think, like his other projects, it’s not about the goal, it’s the journey. Admire tenacity.
 
Our old car hobby has always had many strong opinions, about anything and everything car related, and seems like today, our country is more divided and has stronger opinion that ever or since maybe the War Between the States. Not saying that as any political statement, just the way it is.
I say when Uncle Tony moved from what ? Delaware to Tn., the IQ of both states went up 20% !!?? ha
