1972 Dodge Colt

-
I been doing stuff I needed to do years ago.
Killed the better part of 2 weeks.
Not Colt related.

However I did get a set of inlet stacks powdercoated.
Wrong color, but they had problems with the old color, so they didn't charge me.
They will do till I want to spend a ton for new chrome ones.
On a good note, I became friends with Cotton Perry on FB.
He is a great chevy inline six racer from in the day.
Some of the stuff on his motors blows my mind.
15 to 1 compression, .900 lift GK cam, etc.
No wonder a 3000 lbs. car ran 10.30's in the 70's.

In the mid 70's there was a six cylinder powered Chevy II here that ran mid 6's in the 1/8.

Thanks for that link. The gasket set is worth at least $200.
I am looking at a block closer to Texas, hope to talk him down a little.

Not much progress on the Colt the last few weeks.
Holidays and a road trip planned have derailed the build.

I have a friend down here in Texas, Bama Brown. Radio talk host with KVET-FM, Dripping Springs. He is a pretty neat guy. He has been on Iron Resurrection TV show and he is building homes for First Responders on his property. We are both Don Hardy fans. Anyway he told me he had something for me and this showed up in the mail today. It's a scale model of my Colt! I was blown away as I unwrapped the packing. Who does that anyway? And oh by the way, we are face book friends, I have never met him face to face.

On my trip to AZ I went over to Phoenix and met Ricky Bogart, owner of Bogart Racing Wheels. Super nice guy, he drove a Dodge Craftsman Truck before Dodge dropped out of Nascar. Anyway we talked about my wheels, details of construction and the front spindle mount wheels and some other details. Next week I will place the order for all 4. Spun aluminum and polished front and rear.
Also spoke with Liberty and they have the trans parts done. They are going to ship the parts back next week so I can put the race box together.
I have the ladder bars cleaned and all the clevis, rod end bearings and jam nuts replaced and ready to go back in after I clean and paint the rear frame and tubs.

That's hilarious you know Bama! I don't know him, just watch the show. That's a really cool deal!

408 swinger, I saw him on one show with a Don Hardy jacket and thought it was so cool. Reached out to him and we just closed the loop. He has had some cool Mopars and he is a really good dude. Building homes on his own property, by himself, to give First Responders homes. Martin Bros were going to do some fabrication on a Bonneville Stude that Mr. Hardy and his son were building. Bama knew Mr. Hardy and was in that loop also.

WHERE did he find a model of a Colt? Is it plastic or resin?

I spent most of my week on the phone getting parts on order.
I am rebuilding the rear KONI's with as many new parts as I can find.
Bearings for the mounts, rebound bumpers, paint, etc.
They still list these shocks, only now they are aluminum.
Maybe down the road if i want to save 10 lbs. and spend a thousand dollars I will think about it.
The date code on these is Nov 1982.
Anyone know what they mean by "HEAVY"?
That is what is on the adjuster knobs.

Stan, I think on the Koni's that "HEAVY" is the rebound action of those shocks.

Compression is when the shock goes down, rebound is when it comes back up. LOL

After a week of rain it got nice today.
I got the Dana painted so now I can build up the brakes.
I have a new chrome cover that I will put on after I get the rear installed.
I got the Koni shocks painted so now I can put them back together.
The transmission parts came from Liberty today and they look great.
Looking forward to making some progress the rest of this week.

KONIs are refreshed.
Mount bearings from Rod End Supply were wrong, they shipped the wrong parts.
Wheels are on order, 6 weeks. This wheel only polished.

1 forward, 2 back.
Got the correct shock bearings.
Started to install the axle bearings and one of the retainer rings is not finished machined.
It won't even go over the axle splines!
So tomorrow I will start putting the trans together and get a hold of Strange on Monday and wait for the correct axle part.

And we wonder why we do this. Everytime I have to take those 2 steps back, I grab a cold one, sit back & look at it & attack it again the next day. LOL
